EDITED: Holy Thursday Mass [No penitential rite?]

At my OF Parish for Hoy Thursday the priest skipped the penitential rite and instead gave a few words on the significance of the day and skipped right to the Gloria with the ringing bells. Is this legit or abuse? He also used Eaucharistic Prayer II and the First one.

Both the penitential rite and the Kyrie should have been said (or even just the Kyrie, which is a licit option of the penitential rite).

There are no restrictions on using EP II on Holy Thursday. You’re going to need to elaborate a little bit on what you mean by the “First one”, because I’m not sure what you mean.

The elderly priest who celebrated the Mass last night forgot the Kyrie, he managed to pour water over the foot of one person and then limited himself to handing them a towel after someone else had poured the water.

At the sign of peace he went walk-about to the back of the church, shaking hands with all in the pews. Meanwhile, to fill the silence the choir sang the Lamb of God:rolleyes:. There was no fraction rite as he took Communion as soon as he got back to the altar and there was no co-mingling. It was sad to realize that at one point this man had been vibrant and healthy and now he was neither.
 
Just to clarify: A lot of people think saying the “I Confess” is the Penitential Rite. Saying the “I Confess” is just one of three options in the Penitetial Rite, and for the priest to choose not to say it is not an abuse. What must be said is the Kyrie, or “Lord, have mercy”. If your priest skipped the Kyrie, that is a problem.

I don’t think he said the Kyrie. I made a typo, he said Eucharistic Prayer II only and not the first one.

Well, he’s only required to use 1 Eucharistic Prayer. We had EP III yesterday. There’s no requirement to say EP I.
 
One of our parish’s priest used Eucharistic Prayer for Various Needs III. He concelebrated with two other priests.
