Did the early jewish-christians believed that Jesus was God himself (not just the Mesias) or is this idea a later development from the Church? Thank you.

The beginning of the Gospel of John pretty well spells out Jesus’ divinity. The whole Gospel of John emphasizes it in many statements.

The nature of Christ, the Trinity, and such get fleshed out in the early Church, but it would appear that was understood early.

Remember Thomas’s words in Mathew? “My Lord and my God”.

Exodus 3:14 (God speaking to Moses)

“I AM WHO AM. Tell them I AM sent you”

John 8:58-59

Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I AM. They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.

John 10:30:

"I and My Father are one.”

John 18:5 (Jesus to the armed crowd seeking Him)

“I AM.”
Hearing this, those armed with weapons to arrest him drew back and fell to the ground.

You decide.
