Question:

Would it be permissible to say the EF Asperges before an OF Mass?

The EF Asperges is not part of the EF Mass but an optional rite conducted prior to Mass. I.e. if you only went to an EF Asperges and left immediately after, you never went to Mass. Since the use of the 1962 Roman Missal is permitted and since we aren’t cutting an piecing the two different forms of the Mass together, couldn’t this technically be allowed?

We could finally have an Asperges and Confiteor in the same OF Mass!

Before you weigh in (with proof preferably) consider this other case:

Certainly no one would argue that if a priest were to say EF blessing of holy water, the water could not be used for an OF Mass. Isn’t this also a rite outside of the Mass that could be licitly done prior to an OF Mass? It is related but not a part of the OF celebration?

Thanks,

SC
