EF Baptism

We’re having our little one baptized in the EF rite, as that tends to be the only mass we attend. I know that it’s a bit longer, with more exorcism prayers than in the OF… but I was wondering if there was anything else I needed to be prepared for.

At OF bapstisms, the priest tends to walk the parents through the rite, but I didn’t know if that would be the case in the Latin.

Also, should one give a stipend for the baptism? If so, should a check be made out to the priest or the parish?

In the last two years we’ve been God Parents for two little girls in the EF Rite. My advise to you is talk to your priest before hand. You’ll find everything in the 1962 missal. Just ask the priest if he wants you to answer in latin. if so, practice a little.

Also, the EF Baptism is not done with the congregation getting involved and lots of applause like in the OF. By the time Mass starts, its all over and done with.

Its a beautiful Rite. Familiarize yourself with it before hand.
