EF in Germany

Help! We are moving to probably Weisbaden, Germany (army) and I am afraid I may have to go back to OF! Military has said NO EF! Anyone know of an EF in or very close to 1st Armored Div in Weisbaden?

Thanks. Is it an SSPX church? I don’t understand German (yet). If so, would I be allowed to attend regularly or would I be obligated to attend an OF? I would be willing to recieve Communion at least once a month at an OF, but would that be sinful?

Tried clicking on the US flag, once you locate the place in Germany it goes right back to the page in German unless I’m missing something.
 
Why would you go to an SSPX Mass when there is an Ordinary Form available? The SSPX are forbidden to say Mass. They are disobeying the Pope.
 
Sorry Monica, I don’t think that part of the site has an English translation. There are some fairly good translation sites online though. I found a very good one the other day, but didn’t bookmark it.
 
Not only does the US Army Chaplains not offer the EF, most of the OFs are celebrated in a manner that is full of liturgical abuse, tacky, banal, and protestant-esque. I will have six years in the Army this November and have been to Mass on Forts Dix, Benning, Knox, Bragg, Wadsworth, and Camp Bondsteel. None have been celebrated properly. I am on my way to Iraq now and hope to make a visit to the Eastern Catholic communities- if the security situation permits.

When I was in Kosovo from Sep 05 - Jun 07, I would actually go into downtown Urosevac- outside of the Camp- and hear Mass in Albanian. Other times I would go to the small croation communities left there in Letnica or Janjevo. It was the OF but it was celebrated properly, with reverence and beauty.

There I also attend eastern divine liturgy amongst the Orthodox Serbs, which walks all over the OF in my opinion.

:confused: While the status of the the congregation is still “irregular” in canonical terms, the SSPX is certainly not forbidden to offer Mass.

Really bad experiences with OF on military bases such as the priest saying we should not be so focused on an abligation to attend Mass. That’s why. I have more trust in an EF than an OF at this point. Also as others have noted they are not forbidden to say mass.

Well, we shouldn’t be so focused on it just as an ‘obligation’, sure. In other words we shouldn’t turn it into something we do out of a mere sense of duty, but should make the effort to learn more about why we are there, and go as an act of loving worship and not just an obligation.

Was the priest saying that we should NOT go if we don’t ‘feel’ like it though?

I initially thought the closest Latin Mass to Wiesbaden was a SSPX one, but apparently that isn't the case according to the Latin mass listings. I assume you'll be learning some German soon, so I think you'd be far better off attending a Latin Mass rather than an OF mass. REMEMBER, many dioceses in Germany are outbeds of heterodoxy. The occasion may never even arise, but personally if I have to choose between a parish where they raise money to build mosques and talk about how the Pope needs to get in tune with the times, or an SSPX Chapel, I'll always opt for the latter.

Beside the point really, but my friend who went with me (a non practicing Catholic who does not feel he needs to attend Mass to be a good Catholic) walked out grinning and saying the priest proved his point that he doesn’t have to go. Anyway, I have tried for many years to go to OF and have had to endure some really bad ones for a long time beacuse I had no choice. What I am saying is that I will do everything possible to go to an EF as it is very predictable and I know what to expect even if I don’t speak German (isn’t a universal language great:thumbsup:). So this thread is not about which Mass is objectively better. FOR ME, the EF is much better, hence the thread asking if I might find one where I am going.

I can agree with that, although I haven’t heard anything heretical from the pulpit. Just your typical, run of the mill OF errors in the Mass.

And I’m in Card. Kasper’s former diocese!

Also beside the point. Someone who believes they don’t have to go will take ANYTHING that isn’t a loud thunderous ‘you have to go’, preferably punctuated by the priest banging his hand on the pulpit, as endorsement of their view. Even though it might be no such thing.

And, in my experience, some who dislike the OF will similarly take anything less as proof that not just that one priest but OF priests in general, are soft or heterodox or something, when they may well be no such thing - I certainly don’t know all of 'em, neither do the critics.

Mind you even if the priest DID say your friend had to go, they still would quite simply believe that he was wrong. 🤷 as I did for years and a few of my siblings still do. I can assure you it is not for lack of priests expounding the necessity of going, even though none of us have ever been to a TLM.

I never remotely suggested that the thread was about which Mass was better - objectively or otherwise - nor did anyone else that I am aware of. I was simply trying to find out how the priest had expressed his views, and whether possibly you had misunderstood what he was trying to say.

I do wholeheartedly believe you should go to whichever Mass you are able that best feeds you, and wish you nothing but joy in finding what you’re after.

I do not want this thread to become another battle of the Masses. That is why I said that the statement by the priest was beside the point of this thread. **This thread **is about locating an EF in Wiesbaden. If you have any information on that topic I would welcome it.
