Just an FYI especially for those who have not had a chance to see or participate in an EF mass before.

This coming Saturday is the Mass of the Americas. It will be celebrated in the EF, and will be televised by EWTN across all their media platforms (I think). More info here:

Mild correction:

The Basilica National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is not the National Cathedral.

The Cathedral of St Matthew the Apostle is the seat of the Archdiocese of Washington DC, and is also not the National Cathedral.

The building commonly known as the Washington National Cathedral is an Episcopal cathedral church.

Would it be better if I said national shrine? I obviously cannot fit the entire name of the church in the title for this thread.

“National Shrine” would be correct.
I actually thought when I saw the thread title that this was some new kind of ecumenical EF 😃
The National Shrine did invite the National Cathedral to come use its space temporarily when the National Cathedral was significantly damaged in the DC earthquake a few years ago.

And a very pretty one, I might add. Although I have a weakness for large gothic churches.

Despite this, I enjoyed my experience at the National Basilica much more.

I watched some of this Mass this morning on TV, having already been to an ordinary short early morning OF in some little town I was driving through at a church that happened to also be called “Immaculate Conception”.

While it’s nice to attend these solemn TLMs, and I’ve been to a few, I must say that you get a much better view of what’s going on by watching it on TV. When you’re actually at the cathedral, you can’t see anything unless you’re in the front rows, which are normally reserved for clergy, religious, and VIPs. If you want to actually see a TLM up close and personal, you need to attend one at a small church.
