- I’m not Old Salt. Frankly, I’m insulted that you’d insinuate that I’m old!

not that YOU are old, just that your salt is…
However, my insinuation had more to do with your insistance that you don’t need to provide sources to back your personal experience (a fallacious argument anyway) when I had only said that to the user old salt…
- The source you you provided is not something I would trust…
NORC (National Online Research Center) is a nationally trusted professional research center at the private, non-catholic, University of Chicago. They have no vested interest whatsoever in the results of their surveys, and they consult the government all the time to gather polling results. I have little reason to doubt their results (which, you will note, were about self-identified “traditional” catholics, since there is no such thing as an “official” group known as traditional catholics).
In contrast, you’ve presented me only with anecdotal evidence which wouldn’t stand in any scholarly discussion. Frankly, you have no authority as a polling source in my mind compared to the NORC… heck, I don’t even know what sample method you used to gather your information!
Furthermore, I have no reason to believe anything you say. I am taking it on faith value that your anecdotes are true, but at the same time, you
could be making it up. I could say that I walked into 22 EF parishes and found that every single parishoner was over 80… it wouldn’t be true, but it wouldn’t exactly be falsifiable either.
At any rate, I remain the only person who has backed the claim that “traditional” catholics average out to be older with any sort of real evidence…
And for what it’s worth, I just meant the attending the TLM comment to be humorous and not insulting. You might (or might not) be surprised how many people I’ve heard who make blanket statements to me about the TLM, who attend it, and what they are like without ever having been to one at all or even knowing a person who goes to one. On the flip side, I attend the NO more often than the TLM now due to circumstances, so I’m very familiar with both.
Thank you for clarifying, and I apologize for interpreting your comment negatively. Likewise I appreciate BOTH rites, and cannot tell you how condescending some people are to those of us who try to take the middle ground on this subject… which (unfairly) influenced my reaction to your words.
