I’m sorry, I’m new to this site…what does EF and OF stand for?:confused:
 
OF=Ordinary Form. This is the Mass of Paul VI, which is the most common Mass.
EF=Extraordinary Form. This is the Mass of John XXIII, which is the traditional Latin Mass.

Some would argue that the Missal of 1962 (which is what the EF contemplates) isn’t all that traditional.

It’s simply the latest in a long line of tinkerings since Trent.
 
One man’s “long line of tinkerings” is another man’s “organic development of the Holy Mass.”
 
Also, the new terminology is being used here - it’s the most correct, up-to-date terminology available - because since the Pope’s document “Motu Proprio” of (was it last year or the year before?), special permission is no longer needed to celebrate the “old” Latin mass. So it’s now known as the “extraordinary” form of the mass. The “ordinary” form remains the typical mass as you have known it in most churches in this country over the past few decades.
