, will likely fall on Nov. 6, 2011 in the United States. One of two feast festivals celebrated by Muslims, Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of the Islamic calendar’s last month, Dhu al-Hijjah. Eid al-Adha concludes the annual pilgrimage to Mecca known as the Hajj. Determining the exact date of Eid al-Adha, is a point of contention and some wait for an official announcement from the authorities in Mecca.

The festival commemorates Abraham’s willingness to follow God’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael and Ishmael’s consent to being sacrificed. Today, it is is marked by slaughtering animals to feed the poor. Coming at the end of the Hajj, a journey of dedication and purification, Eid al-Adha is understood as an opportunity for second chances.

Ahimsa:
A longstanding controversy involves whom Abraham was commanded by G-d to sacrifice: Ishmael or Isaac? The vast majority of Muslim scholars say the former, while almost all Jewish and Christian biblical scholars, the latter. If one takes the story literally, as Torah Jews do, it makes a difference; otherwise, it’s the moral lesson that counts the most. I’m sure others will wish to comment. As for myself, I agree with this festival that everyone deserves a second chance…and a third…etc.

We Christians get any number of new chances!

We Catholics receive a wonderful opportunity for a new beginning each time we go the Confession.
Each Eucharist nourishes us for a whole new beginning if we choose to accept it!

We are blessed that it is not a rare or an annual thing for us thing for us!
God forgives our repentant sins, and we begin again.

Each day is a new chance for a new beginning, for fresh grace from God is available every day!

:harp:

We praise and thank and worship God for each new moment, as each new moment offers us a new chance of living in His light!
of correcting past sinful or negative habits and replacing them with virtuous habits and positive outlook!
of relinquishing past errors and of growing in faith, hope, and love!
of growing in knowledge of the Truth,
and of welcoming the transforming love and goodness of God in our lives!

We thank and praise You Lord Jesus Christ who came to give us life, life to the full!

I find this practice very honourable for the benefit of fellow man.

Although the Ishmael sacrifice is sadly misinterpreted. Scripture it is written that God said to father Abraham “your only son Isaac”.
