Hello. My grandmother is very frail and she is in the early stages of dementia. She lives one hour and 45 minutes away from my family and me. Even though our city has much better retirement/nursing homes and better healthcare in general than the small town in which she lives, she refuses to move out of her house.
She recently has started receiving 24-hour home care which is very difficult for her. We are trying to introduce new things into her house which will make her care better for her and easier for her caregivers. However, a pattern has emerged. What happens is my dad will order something for her house. It takes a few days to get to her town so her caregiver will tell her about the change. She immediately blocks it out as a defense mechanism, and then the day the change is to occur, she becomes livid and claims that she was never told about it. She yells at her caregivers, then calls my the phone and explodes. Technically it’s probably not actually a pattern since this is only the second time we’ve tried to introduce something new. What happened the other time is my dad caved and stopped the delivery of her hospital bed. She stopped being abusive but she became delusional and manic (I suppose that’s much better than being abusive, but it sure is strange and unlike her.). This current change is a bathroom remodel that has already began so my dad probably will not simply cancel it. We will see if she simply accepts the change or if something unforeseen happens with her mental state. The remodel begins today and her angry phone call occurred ast night. She said stuff about my dad committing elder abuse and that he’s always scheming to make life difficult for her. (Which is nonsense.) My dad finally told her that he is working and taking care of his own family, and that he’s not just sitting around planning how to make her life difficult, and then he hung up.
Please pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire my dad to say whatever needs to be said the next time they speak. Also that she is able to accept this change. It would be fantastic if several other things occur in the long-term so please pray that these will happen if they are God’s will. The most important thing is her salvation. She is Jewish but not religious. To the Jewish people who post in these forums and who are fellow prayer warriors please know that I have absolutely no animosity and only have respect. Please forgive me if this next thing is not sensitive. I just pray that whatever needs to happen for her to enter into the presence of our God may occur. It would also be fantastic if she is able to have some comfort in this life as well. Some Sort of physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual stability. Please ask this of the Divine Mercy.
I have committed a sin of the body so I really need other people to step up and pray for her. I’ve been praying this St. Jude novena stjudechapel.org/st-jude-novena/ and I made it through day eight before this occurred today. I will pray it tomorrow but if someone else could pray the novena or at least pray tomorrow I would be so grateful. I plan on receiving Holy Communion because I usually have a physical sensation of being cold on the inside whenever I’m in the state of mortal sin, and that is not here now. Plus I’m handicapped and it’s hard for me to get to Confession and my parents are hurt when I don’t receive and I know for sure Jesus is hurt. I read the daily Divine Mercy message, and today’s message from St. Faustina’s diary records Jesus saying, “Do not omit Holy Communion unless you know well that your fall was serious.” The Lord goes on to talk about how it hurts him when we don’t receive Him in Holy Communion.thedivinemercy.org/mmwj.php Please pray that the Holy Spirit does not leave me. Do pray that I don’t die suddenly without having confessed this sin, or received the other Sacraments on account of this sin.
