Electronics at Mass?

Besides, we don’t need an electronic device to be distracted. Many people sit in the pews daydreaming.

I don’t have a good enough phone yet, nor have I found a reliable Byzantine Rite text online or in an app (if I can make one, I will). I would love to have something that would insert the variable parts (like readings and the Troparion, Psalms, etc.) without having to flip back and forth a book. I can already imagine the specs in my mind 😃

Lets just be sensitive to other people. Let us not be a cause for others to sin.
 
I have an iPad & an itouch neither are phones. Anyway, I have the iPieta app on both, where I have bookmarked some wonderful prayers. I have used these before Mass & at Adoration. I admit, I tried to be inconspicuous. Also, I have download Mp3 scriptural rosary & a rosary app that I have used to pray the Rosary at Adoration (wore headphones).
It is different than using a prayerbook, but I have found it comforting to have these prayers available in a format that keeps them easily accessible.

I will continue to use these devices like a book.

For Mass I like having my Magnificat magazine,which is the same size as the missal in the pew.

I try at Mass to focus on the Mass & not look around at others.
 
the instances cited where the priest uses electronic enhancements are not in the same category as someone using his electronic device to read something not part of the Mass. Those priests were using the devices in the same way missalettes and other print worship aids are used, to allow the people to read and understand those parts of the Mass better. he was not broadcasting the bulletin while giving his homily or during the prayers.
 
I don’t think any of the posts have been about reading things not having to do with the Mass. Obviously, reading a paper or texting in Mass would be inappropriate use of these technologies.

But people can easily have anything else in their hands that distract them away from the Mass. From Rosaries and novenas and other prayer booklets, which are tolerable because they are prayers, to other things that are not religious.

Not sure how you determine what is “slightly off,” or “not quite Catholic.” Perhaps your attention would be better directed toward what the priest is actually saying instead of tuning him out at the first sign of something that in your own opinion is “not quite Catholic,” however you’re determining that.

I was at a mass while the cardinals were choosing the current pope. I had to sit and listen to how the Church might grow during the next Pope’s reign so that the cardinals might be able to bring their wives along next time. That after that next pope’s reign that the cardinals might then be able to bring their husbands along. I am not sure what this priest meant by that but whichever way he meant it, female cardinals bringing their husbands or male cardinals bringing their husbands, it was not quite Catholic. I would have benefited much more by saying the Rosary, reading the Bible, or any other actually Catholic act than sit through that. I call that being taken captive; I am obligated by the Catholic Church to attend but am then subjected to anti-Catholic propaganda. What other doctrines and morals does this priest not believe in; the True Presence? The Ressurection?
 
I suspect that before long, it will be very common to see people using electronic readers in church, and no one will think twice about it.
