Ember Days Fasting

Anyone taking part? I am converting to Catholicism and would like to keep the traditional fasting and abstinence on the traditional days. However, it is going to be hard to do because no one else on either side of my family is Catholic. My wife is very understanding of this however and as long as I tell her ahead of time she will make accomodations.

Anyway, I am still unclear on what the Ember days are all about anyway so if anyone could explain them better I would appreciate it.
 
Honestly, I was born pre-Vatican II, remember the Latin Mass, etc., but I have never heard of Ember Days fasting. Could someone explain it without sending me to a website where I have to join to view the info?? :confused:
 
I observed them – I hid all the snacks at work! 🙂

Actually I used to observe them in college, and started up again this year. I especially pray for vocations and for the sanctification of priests and religious.
