… can someone stupefy a definition or explanation for me, please?
 
Groups of Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays set aside by the Church, roughly around the changes in the seasons, to remind us to praise God for His creation. They also served to remind us of our role as stewards of creation, and of course to share with the poor (since our food is a gift of God’s creation). Fasting and complete abstinence were observed. The fasts are talked about in 3rd century writings, so the tradition is likely even older.

They were abrogated in the 1960s. However, lots of Catholics still observe them, and today was the Wednesday of the Lenten Embertide. 👍

Well if you’re able to fast, it’s not too late to join in on Friday and Saturday! It’s a tradition Catholics followed for many centuries. Not a bad idea if you ask me.

And for future reference, the next set will be the Whit Embertide - after Pentecost - on May 30, June 1, and June 2.
 
Restore the Ember Days and the Octave of Pentecost!

If I’m not mistaken, the GIRM does mention the Ember Days, and they’re not strictly non-existent, but we don’t observe them really.
 
Ordinations were traditionally done on Ember Saturdays, one order after each of the many readings.
