Our Magisterium teaches that In vitro fertilization (IVF) and subsequent embryo transplant (ET) are intrinsic evils in concert with our hierarchy of truths. The fundamental truth underpinning these truths and much of Catholic morality is the absolute dignity of every human being.

The Church teaches that aborting the child of a rapist is also an intrinsic evil. The innocent child is the good effect of an evil act. God mysteriously brings good out of evil. What about the unwanted babies left in the Petri dish? Are they not also the good effects of an evil act?

Donum Vitae (DV) teaches that these innocent humans are “exposed to anabsurd fate, with no possibility of their being offered safe means of survival that can be licitly pursued” (D.V. I.5).

Theologians are busy working up proposals for the Magisterium to consider that either solidify the teaching of DV or offer a remedy that allows “left over” humans from IVF to survive through “embryonic adoption” (EA). Those who promote EA must convince the Magisterium that ET absent IVF is not an intrinsic evil.

And if this argument prevails that EA is not intrinsically evil, than one is left with shaky ground on opposing IV.
It is possible to get human sperm without resorting to masturbation. The slope gets very slippery very quickly.

The EA proponents presume the adoptive mother does not consent or is involved in the IVF procedure just as the raped mother does not consent to the intrinsic evil committed to her person by the rapist.
