EMHCs: have you ever refused to give communion to anyone?

Why did you refuse?

How did you indicate your refusal to the prospective communicant?

How did the prospective communicant react?

Did you discuss the situation afterwards with your priest?

When you were undergoing training to become an EMHC, did they cover the justifiable reasons for refusing communion and how to do it?
 
I have covered the chalice with my hand on several occasions when someone tried to self-intinct and simply said “consume the host first.” There has never been a problem although I have received a dirty look a few times.
 
Same here - never had to cover the chalice, just told them that they need to consume the Host first.
 
My 18 year old son, bless his heart, turned a gum chewer(!) away, telling him to go spit it out and come back. Hasn’t happened to me yet, but…
