I know there are threads on EMHC’s but I have a few questions and would appreciate if I could get them all answered here with reference to relevant documents.
My friend is an EMHC and I disagreed with several things he told me.
My friend is an EMHC and I disagreed with several things he told me.
- Can an EMHC receive Communion 3 times in a day, even if there is no danger of death. My friend says he is required to serve at 3 Masses on Sundays and is therefore allowed by the priest to receive Communion 3 times. I don’t think this is correct.
- My friend says when someone is in the Communion line not to receive the Eucharist but only to receive a blessing the EMHC can give a blessing. Again I don’t think that is so.
- My friend says that he can administer the last rites to a dying person if there is no priest at the scene and if the person would be dead by the time a priest got there. He takes his stole with him wherever he travels in case such an event occurs. Again that doesn’t seem right.
- He says that at a “Dry Mass” outside the Church he can say the whole Mass except for the words of Consecration. That stuck me because I’ve never heard of a dry Mass.
- He told me one Sunday the priest was sick but was able to consecrate the bread and wine. However, after distributing the priest had to sit down as he was feeling quite ill and he asked my friend to drink all the wine that was in the chalice on the altar and then clean it.
