Madretere spoke out in the Meet and Greet forum today. I felt compelled to start a thread for her so that her worries could be addressed and she’ll log back in to find some help.

I’ll link this thread to her by private messaging.

Hello,
This is actually my first attempt at communicating with anyone this way. I mostly joined for some good catholic advice or to sound off some of my concerns. At this point in my life it feels as if I’m walking through the desert, perfect for lent, right? I’m a mom of 2 very beautiful daughters, 20 and 13. I’ve been married for 23 years, 20 of which were like a bad dream, unfortuanately, but since then I have a “new” husband, thank God. Sadly, my 20 year old endured a lot of emotional abuse along with me. I carry this guilt! She left to college and did well initially, (I thought) but since last year in May I learned that she had gotten into trouble, experimenting with alcohol, drugs…She was sexually assaulted and after that started a homosexual relationship with a girl. Because of the assault, my husband and I decided to bring her home-she was so wounded…Since May of last year she has lived with us, but not without torment. She often stayed out and wouldn’t come home for days at a time. Not knowing what to do we were too afraid to impose too many demands/ house rules on her, because of her fragile condition. She bounced around with therapists, and finally she stuck with one for about 6 weeks (from our church). The day before they were due for their last session, I took her phone, car keys, hair samples…So we came home the next day to a note that she was leaving us. I’m so hurt/wounded/guilty, but most of all worried about her…???

Zundrah, this is so very kind of you to gather up support for this poster. I know the rules for different online forums are different, is it ok that you are reposting in another part of the forum?

For Madretere, this problem is bigger than your guilt or your daughter’s assult or the choices she’s making now. You mention that she has seen counselors, have you explored counseling for the entire family?

Because it’s just from the meet and greet forum, I think it’s okay to do so.

They aren’t suppose to do anything other than say hello etc. So you’d tend to redirect them if they go any deeper than just introducing themselves.

Not easy. She left, so there is little you can do.
I offer myself to dialogue with her if she sends notice of her stay.
Pray without end.

Adding my prayers to those who are praying for her and her daughter.
It can be a little scary when new on a forum. It can be difficult to feel safe and trusting especially when one is hurting badly.
May God bless and aid this family, and reunite them in love and grace.

I am so sorry for all of your pain and sorrow, and I will remember your family in my prayers. I have gone through a heart-wrenching time over the last few years and there have been times when I just didn’t think I could bear it any longer. Like you, my children will forever carry scars from this time too.
I realize God has lessons He wants me to learn, and I am trying hard to become a better person, and “do all that I do in love.” I understand your daughter’s feelings that she needs to escape --she has a lot to work through-- and escape comes in many forms like drinking, drugs, etc. I pray God will keep her safe and guide her through these troubled times. I have enlisted the aid of St. Jude, St. Joseph, St. Expedite, St. Michael, St. Francis, beloved Mary Mother of God and all of the angels and saints to pray for us. I have never walked alone, and you should know God is with you.
Take care, and stay hopeful.
All my best.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this and that your daughter is having such a time. I’m not understanding, why did you take her keys, phone and hair sample? I can understand her not being really thrilled about that but not understanding why - did she threaten to leave?
God Bless - sorry if I missed something -
