Hi, I’m making this thread because I have no one to really vent out my feelings to. And I need to. I need to so badly I dreamed about it last night.

I went to a weight loss doctor. A really good one. She said a lot of things can affect your weight one of them is your feelings. So she took out a piece of paper she called a “Feeling Wheel” and told me to close my eyes. She then read words like “Hostile, stupid, upset, scared” etc. She told me if I had to think about one of those words, even for a second I had to repeat it back to her. Because it was my subconscious grabbing on to that word. Out of the 25 words she said I repeated 4. She said they were all pointing to one emotion: sadness.

“Adrienne, why are you sad?” She asked me. “Um, I…don’t…know” I responded. I had noticed that I had begun to grow sadder and I really had no idea why. "Then it’s time to do “Evog” she said. “What’s that?” I asked nervously. “It’s when we tap into your subconscious mind. You see, your brain only holds so much information. Your subconscious remembers 9 days after your 2nd birthday things like that, that you don’t remember. It holds EVERYTHING.” “How do we do it?” I asked. “I give you headphones and you listen to relaxing music and I give you these special glasses, you have to close your eyes while wearing them and you will see bright lights. I want you to think about why your sad, and your subconscious will take you there.” “Ok I’m ready.” “Then lets begin.”

So I put the headphones and glasses on and my subconscious came alive. I went back in time to all the times my dad screamed at me. You don’t know my dad, when he screams the chandelier shakes and the foundations of the house tremble. I’m not kidding. So I went back to all the times he verbally and emotionally abused me. I even remembered the time I was 4 and I pee’d in my pants because he screamed at me for forgetting to but one lego away. But I mostly remembered the time 3 months ago today, I’m still 13, and I was late to watch a family movie so he got up and (my door was closed not locked) and he kicked the door down and exploded, calling me a bit** and a piece of shi*, to name a few, and screamed at me that I wasn’t part of this family. Then he left my room leaving me with a broken down door and a broken heart. It was the first time I didn’t cry after one of his explosions. It was 3 moths ago. I held it in. I forgave him and lived on, acting like I was strong and ok, not knowing my mind had reached full capacity of the abuse it could take. At that moment the lights went out and the music stopped my time was up 7 minutes had passed. I was back in the present in my doctor’s office.

“What did you see?” she asked gently. As I recovered from what I had relived I tried to tell her and when I opened my mouth to speak a sob tore from my throat. And my control vanished and I began to sob and cry and I just completely broke down. “What you’re feeling, Adrienne, is absolutely perfect. It’s just what your suppose to feel. Everyone goes through this when the go through an Evog session.” I looked up and told her what I had relived. She told me that none of it was my fault and that it was him, and him alone who was at fault. She asked if I knew anything of my dad’s past that might have an impact of his behavior. I told her that my dad’s mom (my grandma) had raised him based on books. She read books on how to raise children and followed them chapter by chapter. She had an explosive temper and screamed at him everyday. My doctor told me that I was going to do another Evog session and this time watch my dad explode like I was watching a movie or a train go by. And while he screams think about his childhood and feel love and pity while he explodes so I went back in, and my subconscious came alive.

I went right back and did as she said and the love and pity did come and after seven minutes, I felt better. I was beginning to heal.

She then told me about Big and Little. Everyone has a Big and Little. Big, is my 13 year old, my present age. The one who goes to school and learns, and studies and thinks about consequences before acting. Little, is the 5 year old in me. The one who laughs, cries, sings, and dances. And the one who feels fear and sadness. By forcing myself not to cry and acting to the rest of my family like I was ok and not hurt at all, I was suffocating my Little until she was surrounded by a shell of steel and barely existed anymore. I didn’t laugh anymore or cry, I didn’t go to parties or sing with feeling. It was almost like I stopped feeling. If any of you have read “New Moon” by Stephanie Meyer you read what Bella went through when Edward left her. She stopped feeling. That was how I was except not as drastic. So the doctor kept talking to me and told me to go back into the Evog session and be Big and ask my Little to come out and let out her emotions. So I went back in.

“Little, none of this is your fault, come out, Little, I’m here, I’ll protect you.” I said in my mind. The five year old in me emerged, pale and teary. I hugged her and told her we couldn’t be apart. My seven minutes ended.

I told the doctor what had happened and she said I was healing fast. I went through more Evog sessions of more or less the same thing. My Big was healing my Little. 2 hours passed and I got in the car with my mom who drove us to a hotel. (The doctor’s office was 3 hours away from home so we stayed at a hotel. “What was all that about Evog, you were in there for more than 2 hours.” My mom asked. “Um, nothing.” I replied, not yet ready to open up. My Little was still partially encased. “You don’t want to talk about it.” Mom replied, more of a statement than a question. “There’s not much to talk about.” I said and we dropped the subject. I remembered that I had said that to her so many times the last few months, that she had become resigned to it. We went to the hotel. The next morning I went back to the doctor’s where we continued.

“You didn’t tell your mom?” She asked. “No, I just couldn’t.” I replied. " Well, you’re not completely healed yet, but now I’m sensing there’s more to this. I want you to go back into Evog and ask Little why she still doesn’t want to open up and become vulnerable as all 5 year old’s should be." “Ok”. I said and I went back in.

“Little? It’s Big come out, we need to talk.” "Little poked her head out. “Little, why are you still afraid to let out your emotions?” My Big asked. My subconscious immediately took me to the time I was 8 and in Karate classes. As my dad drove me home he told me showing fear and pain was a sign of weakness. He told me this almost every class. My seven minutes ended.

“My Little told me it was because, when I was 8 My dad told me showing fear and pain was a sign of weakness. I guess I sort of linked it.”
The doctor shook her head and looked up. “Your dad was wrong. Father’s tell this to their sons all the time and that’s why men are so hard to get through to. Your dad is trying to make you into a boy. And he is wrong. Emotions are good and meant to be shown.” She continued talking to me this way and then she told me she was putting me back in Evog and she wanted me to tell my Little that dad had been wrong. So I went back in.

“Little, daddy was wrong. What he said wasn’t right and he was wrong. Do you hear me Little? You’re suppose to open up. I’m here, I’m Big and I will protect you. We can’t live without each other. Without you I’m a robot with no feelings, and without me you are just a child without control. Like a vampire child from Twilight. We go together. And you need to open up. Okay?” Little slowly nodded her head and I hugged her. My seven minutes ended.

“Ok, Little agreed to open up.” I told the doctor. She smiled at me and said “Okay! Then we’ve reached the last step. You are going to have a “bragathon”” I looked confused so she explained. "I want you to pick Little up on your shoulders and run around telling imaginary people why Little is so great. “Ok.” I said. And for the last time, I picked up the headphones and glasses and the music and lights began.

“Little, I have to tell you a secret, come here.” Little stopped picking flowers and came to my Big. I grabbed her and threw her on my shoulders and started to run around. Little was laughing hysterically and stopped when I saw an imaginary woman. “My Little is the greatest because he loves to laugh and sing!” I yelled in my mind. The woman smiled and disappeared. Little giggled with delight. I saw a man and I ran up to him, Little on my shoulders. “My Little is the greatest because she loves to dance and make jokes!” The man grinned and disappeared. This went on for 7 minutes.

Later, I felt ready to tell my mom. So in the car on the 3 hour way back home the Little in my came out for the first time in months and told my mom everything.

My mom had a talk with my dad, and my dad apologized to me and told me he loves me more than his own life. I was finally happy.

I’m still healing and taking pills for my mental health. But I’m different. I’m not like Bella from New Moon anymore. I’m happy!!!

Thank you all for reading.

Blessings,

May you continue to grow and live in the faith. Good to know that you’re feeling happy and the healing has begun.

I’ll be praying for you and your family, God bless. 😃

I was very impressed with the way you were able to put your dad’s outbursts into the appropriate perspective.

Excellent.

Well done.

A really good job, also, done by your doctor.

There are many life-building lessons you can take from this experience including the impact [negative, unfortunately] that your grandmother had on your father’s behavioral habits … but that he is able to reconstruct his behavior in a more positive direction. And you can also see how he was shaped as a young person and, that by you understanding that, you can shape YOUR life the way you want it to be. And you can help your dad reshape his life as well.

But now, knowing all of that, you can build the kind of personality that YOU want to have so that you are able to not only control your weight but also add any other future positives that you would like to add to your life.

You may, for example, find that there are some school courses that you really like and might want to do some self-study on your own to further your interest.

The technique you learned with your doctor can be used by you to focus your attention to improve your participation in sports, or in school, or in some subject that you really like or in some subject that you want to improve in.

It’s really amazing that when we focus and look at an aspect of our lives from different directions that we can understand more about how we react to things and that we can construct positive role models for ourselves.

Well done!

Excellent!!

God bless you, Adrienne. It must have been difficult, but necessary, to relive those moments. I hope you father is able to forgive his mother, too, so that you can all be healed.

What a beautiful post Adrienne, thanks for sharing with us. It strikes me that you are so young but such a wonderful writer and you seem to have a beautiful personality. I feel God has blessed you sweetheart.

I’m happy that you where able to make the breakthrough you did and that your Dad did as well. Please remember that he won’t change completely overnight and you guys may have ups and downs until this becomes the new way your family lives. Just remember what you learned, that it is not your fault if he says those things again and it is wrong. He is probably unhappy with something in his own life and doesn’t know how to vent it properly. Please keep communicating with your Mom and praying. You will be in my prayers as well.

May God Bless you,
TeresaAnn

You are a very talented writer for someone so young. Keep that in mind when you decide what to do in the future.
