I was offered a factory job today and I have to go to a clinic of my employers choosing to get a physical done and be drug tested. I just found out that this clinic performs abortions. straubhealth.org/sch/health-services/obstetrics-gynecology.aspx
This clinic isn’t just an abortion clinic they do just about every kind of medical thing you can think of. (Its actually both a clinic and a hospital.) Being Pro-Life I really don’t want to go anywhere near a place that murders babies. The problem is I need a job.

Question: Is it ok for me to go to this clinic to get my physical and drug test done? Or should I tell them I’m not interested in the job.

PS- We really do live in a culture of death, dont we. I mean for pete sakes I can’t even get a physical done without having to worry about if I going to be near a place that murders babies. It’s just horrible.

I cannot possibly give you any advice on this one, but I will say that I completely understand your feelings on this matter. It would be horrible knowing that babies are killed in the same clinic, perhaps even at the time while you are there for your physical and drug test. I am not sure that I could go into the clinic, if I was aware of this reality. I hope you are able to find a better arrangement, but if not, God be with you!

I would ask your employer to be if you can go somewhere else to get the stuff done. You may have to pay for it out of pocket, but doing the right thing costs money sometimes. By you getting your physical done there they will be making money on your business and thus you are helping to support their mission. I’d see if you could go somewhere else to get the physical.

God bless,

John

I worked in an area where I had to pass by about 2 female health clinics, on my lunch walk, where they were either performing abortions there or functioned as referral centers for procuring abortions. I always did the sign of the cross and prayed as I passed these places and put as much distance between me and the clinic.

My advice to you is to complete your employers requirements and go to the clinic, work is very important, but pray. Pray the rosary, print something off the internet if you need the instructions. You are not cooperating with evil by being required to go there and praying for these things is what we need to do. You may even feel more comfortable telling the receptionist to call your cell# especially if during your wait you are more comfortable mulling outside.

Fulfill the requirements and pray.
Hopefully I’ve helped you and maybe this can be a positive towards
a prayer life or developing one.

This has helped greatly…Thankyou very much.
And Thankyou to the rest of you that helped.

I really cannot definitively advise but I would be inclined to ask my employer if another venue was acceptable. If not perhaps you might go and simply pray about the situation there.

That said one totally understands your horror at being brought into contact with such an evil place.

You are not choosing to support the abortions by frequenting the clinic, in particular because you don’t appear to have much of a choice. By going there you do not directly or materially assist in or procure any abortion so you need not worry about your conscience.

If you want, and provided it won’t get you into trouble, maybe print off and leave in the waiting area a few leaflets containing phone numbers and details of pro-life charities which offer alternatives to pregnant women considering abortions?

Update:

Did some more research and the clinic I will have to go too does not have abortions going on in it…the abortions are performed at other locations in other buildings. But it is all part of the same hospital system.

Now there is a St. Francis medical center in my area…maybe I will see if I can get an appointment with them instead.

Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Many times there are pro-life protesters outside these clinics. See if you can check in for your physical and have them page you or call your cell when they are ready. Then go sit/stand with the protesters rather than waiting in the waiting room.

I understand your problem. I would not want to do anything that would be bringing money into a system that helps provide abortions in any way. Even if you are just there for the physical, the payment your employer makes will add to the bottom line of that medical facility which is a bad thing.

As the others have said, the best thing to do is Pray Pray Pray!

Maybe while you’re there you’ll have some pro-life literature with you, and ‘accidentally forget’ it in the waiting room?

Congratulations on your new job!

Let’s examine the situation very carefully:

What are you doing? You are getting a pre-employment physical and drug test.

Who is paying for it? Your employer
  • Are you getting an abortion? No
  • Are you procuring an abortion for somebody else? No
  • Are you providing a service for the abortion? No
  • Are you materially contributing to the economics of allowing that facility to provide abortions? No
  • Please note: if you were required to go to a planned parenthood or other similar facility, then you potentially *c----o--------u---------l--------------------d *say that the revenue that your company provides frees other monies that could be used to finance abortion (but that would be a HUGE stretch.
  • This medical system sounds like it doesn’t do the “charity” work of pushing abortion-based eugenics in poor, minority neighborhoods
The bottom line: I don’t see the problem.
