I went to late afternoon Mass yesterday and there were 2 people present.

I have a hypothetical question…what if there were NO parishioners to attend? Would the Mass go on anyway?

I don’t think Mass can be said with the priest alone being there … more than that I don’t know.

My father used to tell a story of being the only parishioner in his tiny rural community to turn up at a weekday Mass once - he said the priest changed all the prayers to simply refer to ‘brother’ and they both had a good laugh about it afterwards 😃

It could theologically the priest could celebrate Mass by himself validly. However I believe the current rules are that at least one member of the faithful must be present for licitness, not validity.
