I posted about it back in July but no responses. We have our deacon and 4 or 5 from our parish going to the one in LA.

Fr Dn Paul had two posts about his experience at the Midwest Encounter, over on Byzcath.

I’ll be at the upcoming one in LA. Anyone else here going?

Our Parish priest has been talking about the one in California. There will be a bus to take folks from Phoenix to Cali, if they choose.

I’m going to the Encounter 2012 - East session in Hillsborough, NJ next weekend. I’d be happy to post about it afterward.

Our priest will be going too…it was in today’s bulletin.

Fr Loya talked about the Encounter on Light of the East this week #419 on his site. He has some audio and some of his own commentary from the Midwest Encounter.

Having the West Coast Encounter right at LAX airport makes it so *much *easier to get to than many conferences. It’s still a stretch getting things together to be able to attend. Thankfully our parish is covering our registration, which helps.

I"ve noticed some have noted that members of their parishes are attending. My perception is that this should be seen as an opportunity for Latins particularly to discover the riches of the non-Latin Traditions.

I e-mailed the link to several of my Latin Catholic friends back home and I hope they attend and spread the news in their Latin parishes. I would love to see a Latin Catholic post that members of his parish are attending.🙂

Blessings,
Marduk

I agree it would be great, but the fact is most Latin Catholics just don’t care about the Eastern Catholic Churches. I’ve been trying the last 2 years to get a talk going introducing the Eastern Catholic Churches to youth groups in the RCC. Despite my aggressive enthusiasm, no one has even considered making it happen. The best I got is, “hey, that’s a great idea!” Then never heard from that person again.

God bless you for your efforts!👍

Thanks for the suggestion. The poster reads “The Eastern Catholic Bishops of the U.S.A.invite all Eastern Catholics, clergy, religious and laity of the U.S. and Canada, and all interested seekers to gather “Together in Christ” for… ENCOUNTER 2012 an historic conference, to be held in three locations in the United States.” so clearly they do intend for it as also an outreach to other Catholic and non-Catholic “seekers”.

Wish I’d thought of it sooner as the deadline is past for the local Diocese paper, but SF has a digital version I can put it in and also will put it in the Latin parish bulletin. It might not be something many can get to but I find we very often get visitors at my EC parish whenever I put announcements in my Latin parish bulletin and the Diocese paper. (That is usually promoting Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts as a time to practice Lent in a different way, and also when our parish has celebrated Panikhidas at the Franciscan Porziuncola in SF on their All Souls Feast day.)

The electronic bulletin from my Latin parish just arrived and has the announcement in it. I bolded the part about all interested seekers, and added the bit about the “wonderful opportunity” to get to know us. 🙂
Thanks again, Marduk, for the suggestion. 🙂
Encounter 2012
November 2-4
The Eastern Catholic Bishops of the U.S.A. invite all Eastern Catholics, clergy, religious and laity of the U.S. and Canada, and all interested seekers to gather “Together in Christ” for… ENCOUNTER 2012 an historic conference, to be held in three locations in the United States. (ENCOUNTER West Coast in Los Angeles Nov 2-4).* The ENCOUNTER is held every five years. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know Catholics from the 22 other particular Catholic Churches, including Melkite, Maronite, Byzantine, Ukrainian, Chaldean, and Russian.

BTW: the keynote speaker of the Encounter 2012 - East (Hillsborough, NJ) session is Most Rev. Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of the RC Diocese of Manchester, NH. Formerly Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Center, NY, he was granted bi-ritual facilities in th Byzantine [Ruthenian] Catholic Church several years ago.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
I attend both sesions of the Encounter here in Cleveland. I found them to be very enjoyable and uplifting experiences. By my count, there were 84 participants at the Clergy sessions and the Lay sessions were sold out at 200 persons. I would highly encourage anyone who can to attend!

Fr. Deacon Robert Cripps:👍

Sold out, wow! Great! 👍 Thanks for that update, Fr Robert. New promo on Youtube from that session. 🙂

Prayers for the success of Encounter 2012 EAST which began for the clergy today and runs through Oct. 14.

I didn’t think I’d be there, WEST, but my husband just decided it will be a good way for us to celebrate our 33 anniversary and I’m not about to disagree with him. 😉
