Encouragement from St. Faustina on this Christmas Day!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

How good it is to be “little and humble” in our hearts, gazing on Baby Jesus, lying in a manger! He chose to be like us in everything except sin. He lived, died, rose and ascended into heaaven that we might be Holy as He is Holy!

In paragraph 283 of her “Diary, Divine Mercy in My Soul” St. Faustina wrote:

…Let no soul, even the most miserable, fall prey to doubt; for as long as one is alive, each one can become a great saint, so great is the power of God’s grace. It remains for us only not to oppose God’s actions.

Let us be encouraged by little Saint Faustina, who felt herself miserable, yet became a great saint, by the power of God’s Grace.

Jesus Meek and Humble of Heart make our hearts like Yours.
Jesus, we trust in You.
Mary, our Mother, St Joseph our Protector, and St. Faustina, our sister and great apostle of God’s Mercy, pray for us.

“My Mercy is infinite; all souls can reach My Divine Heart and rise to whatever heights they wish within that Heart. I make no distinction between the innocent and the guilty — the more they love Me, the dearer they are to Me. No soul will ever find limitations to its trust in My Mercy, for I want that trust to go on growing for ever…”

Yes. Except that this isn’t an excuse to carry on doing evil. He gave us the commandments to abide by. Although His mercy is there for all who repent.

You are very welcome, Richard: I’m always happy to share the wisdom of the Saints. I’ve been re-reading St. Faustina’s Diary for this Year of Mercy. There is much to learn and to practice, if we are to become merciful as our Father is Merciful!

Thanks for your reply. God surely has revealed His Mercy in Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church, as well as through the writing of many holy souls. Still, we fail often in our own practice of mercy. By His Grace may we open ourselves to His Holy Spirit that we may hear His Truth more deeply and do the Truth we hear.

Come, Holy Spirit, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love.
Jesus, I trust in You.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, Pope St. John Paul II had great devotion to the Divine Mercy. St. Faustina was beatified and canonized by Pope St. John Paul II. If you have never read her Diary, you might want to read it during the Year of Mercy, I began re-reading it and have found it to be an even greater blessing re-reading it this year.

Let’s please listen again to St. Faustina’s words in her Dairy:

…Let no soul, even the most miserable, fall prey to doubt; for as long as one is alive, each one can become a great saint, so great is the power of God’s grace. It remains for us only not to oppose God’s actions.

I think we can hear her speaking from a humble heart that has been tempted herself to doubt. The evil one tempts us away from God’s Love to look at our miseries. St. Faustina, I believe, learned from Jesus, we can trust in the power of God’s Grace. It is when we trust in ourselves that we begin to doubt because we see only our misery and forget God’s great Love and power.

The story of the prodigal son shows us a father who ran to meet his son, a father who gave a great feast because his son was alive. Jesus wants us to love so much we will trust Him and never doubt He can make us great saints. Please take careful note of the last sentence in the quote above which I underlined for emphasis. If we truly love God we seek His Will and are careful not to oppose Him in what He has already commanded or what He directly wills or permits in our lives day by day. We need to keep asking for grace to grow.

By God’s Grace we grow like Him. True humility keeps us from excuses. True Love keeps us continually fighting against sin. I think St. Faustina is encouraging little souls not to give up because they feel the misery of not loving enough a God who Loved us so much. She is telling us His Love is greater than our misery. I hope that helps a bit.
