I was talking with a lady and after some time context clues in the conversation suggested she had exposure to Christianity.
I thought I would encourage her to pray. The conversation went like this:

me: hey, ___, do you ever pray?

her: no, i don’t have time to pray… i’m too busy.

me: too busy? what could be more important?

her: well now you’re just being argumentative

is there’s a one or two line response I could use next time that would have been better? something sweet or funny that would have made a better impression than i did?

thanks for any advice

I thought I would encourage her to pray. The conversation went like this:

me: hey, ___, do you ever pray?

her: no, i don’t have time to pray… i’m too busy.
These lines could be adapted to the circumstances:

me: I have 5 seconds free for prayer. Lord bless today.
or
me: hey,
, Isn’t it great, the sun is finally out. Praise God!
or
me: Glad to hear your great news. Thank you, God for your blessings upon ____
or
me: I have the best news ever. Would you share a quick thank you,God prayer with me? You can just say amen.

As you can tell, sometimes encouraging someone to pray begins with your own short prayers.

You can also agree with her.
me: I feel the same way, Just way to busy. Do you think a quick thank you, God prayer would work? If she smiles just a little…

me: Thank you, God.

From there, you can figure out how to work prayer into the conversation. Best to use examples, not questions.

Me: The Our Father is my favorite. Sometimes, I only get the first two lines in and then the phone rings. But I really feel good when I do get those first two lines said.

Blessings … Thank you, God for Tyler_

“God accepts any prayer no matter how short. And He would LOVE to hear from you!!”

thank you both very much. these are positive ways that i can use to encourage prayer without seeming too pushy. 🙂
