As this is my 500th post on CAF, I thought I’d start a thread on Bible verses that are especially lovely or encouraging.
I’ll start with John 11:35: “Jesus wept.” (KJV)
How beautiful that God, our almighty God, was made man and knew all of the emotions common to humanity. He had the power to defeat death, and yet was moved to tears by the grief attendant upon a loss.
More, the Lord Jesus validates our human grief at death. Even when we are confident that we will meet a loved one in Heaven, yet the separation is painful and a reminder of the brokenness of the world that has not been fully restored. Jesus was moved by the bonds between Mary and Martha and their brother Lazarus, and did not attempt to comfort them with platitudes. Instead, he shared in their grief.
But upon sharing it, he then destroyed it by raising Lazarus from the dead. And some day, God will wipe away every tear. What a wonderful promise; what a wonderful savior.
How about you? What Bible verses are significant to you, or beloved?
