I just finished reading the Vatican II Dei Verbum. I’ll be re-reading it, but it was a bit shorter than I was hoping it would be.

Are there major encyclicals articulating church teachings on the Bible (preferably recent, although quite frankly if there is an oldie-but-goodie I’d give that a read)?

Thanks. This looks like what I was looking for.

Man I thought I had subscribed to this thread, but nothing was in my inbox this morning. I’m glad I checked the thread itself.

I’ll get back when I have questions/comments. Thanks again.

I guess there’s an encyclical by Pope Benedict XV written around 1920 or 1921 on the subject of the Bible.

In case you weren’t aware, there’s a document library on the www.ewtn.com website. You can search for documents by (partial) title or author. You can select, copy, and paste them into your favorite word processor for convenient offline reading.

I found one on Jerome: Was this the one you were thinking of?

yes, there’s Spiritus Paraclitus and in it Benedict XV mentions another of his encyclicals, Humani Generis, which seems to be concerned with the preaching from the Bible.

So, these too may be relevant to the OP.
