I watched this documentary about all these different oracles including a computer program that has predicted the world to end Dec 21, 2012. It even stated that the bible has predicted a lot of things that are happening to sign that the end of days are here.

I’m just curious to hear people’s thoughts on this theory. I know that there have been many “end of days” predictions in the last couple of centuries, so I don’t put too much worry into it.

Just curious to hear what you have to say…

It has technically been “the last days” since Christ returned to Heaven.

I will satisfy your curiosity then, so what I have to say is another quote, Forrest Gump
Stupid is as stupid does.
the apostles, prophets and popes did not have computers to interpret the bible, therefore the bible contains nothing that can only be know with the aid of computer. to think otherwise is to deny the very basis of Divine Revelation. To go on TV with such a claim is simply a way to sell books and has no relation whatever with any kind of truth at all.

There have been alot of times when people have tried to set a date for Christ’s return. But they were obviously wrong, seeing as how we’re still here. My theory? He comes when He comes. And I will work for and wait with hopefullness for that glorious event.

Well I will tell you somethign that might be scary, try learnign mroe abotu the mayan culture they say taht 2012 will be the coming of ketzacul kukutal taht is translated as the coming of the messiah, It is quite interesting because they didnt beleive in a messiah nor in one God but in many pagan Gods.
They also resembled a lot to christianity for example I have seen documentaries about their cultures and they said the god sun was cruxified and things like that.

btw I watched that documentary that you are talking about I think it is this one:
au.youtube.com/watch?v=e5fLxAqfnjA

and it mentioned somethign about “the webbots”, they were used to help people to make future investments. but it also started to predicted world events, like 9 11, the tsunamis and other event.

The prophecies for the future are not very promising either they have predicted that a world conflict will be developed in 2008 and 2009.
When I first saw that some years ago I thought it was dumb, but now after watching the world events, like Russia wanting to start another cold war with NATO and poland, and the unavoidable crisis of Iran nukes against Israel, I just think this stuff could be right.
Time will tell, lets hope they were all wrong.

Finaly they said that all the events will take a climax on 2012.

Furthermore the mayas believe in the coming of Ketzakul Kukutal near december 21 2012 11:00 they said that whatever is going to happen it will last 3 days. So guess when will it end?
it will end on the 25 of december 12:00.

So dont know, there is a lot of exoterism on all that. but I guess that learnign more about it can help us to know more about all this exoteric knowledge.

Since scripture promises that not even The Son knows the appointed hour, I highly doubt ANYONE else did, does or will… excepting God.

I remember seeing a documentary about the Mayan Doomsday Prophecy a few years ago and it did startle me a little bit. At least it got me to investigate it online.

After I read a lot more about it, I realized that what they were talking about was something of the end of the Mayan calendar, etc. and to tell you the truth, it made me think of just the opposite, that it’s all just a bunch of baloney…

It may not be an end but a great change of some sort.

However, with any change comes strife and protest since people hate change of any sort.

Case in point, people who refuse to believe Climate Change is happening and is heavily influenced and view it as an attack on capitalism by Socialists or believe that it is a natural event that is happening so nothing can be done to change it and nothing should eb done to change it, and continue to insult and ridicule those who believe Climate Change is real and is caused or heavily influenced by humans.

They do so out of a fear of change, and will continue to be as disruptive as they possibly can in order to keep things froms progressing.

The bit about the Bible is the infamous Bible Code. They take verses of the Torah (That’s the first five books of the Bible for anyone who doesn’t have that info on the tip of their tongue.) and have a computer create text squares:

THEENDRESULT
WILLLOOKSOM
ETHINGLIKETHI
SBUTINAPERF
ECTSQUARE

The squares can be 5x5, 10x10, 12x12, or any grid size you require. Then you provide some phrases that you would like to find. “2012, End times.” Now here is the fun part. The computer will do a skip search. That means going through and examining ever 3rd, or 8th, or -4th (going backwards in other words. and try to find the phrases.

It will try different text blocks, different combinations, oh and the best part is that it can be out by one or two letters. What’s a little inaccuracy between friends?

So, yes, this magical code came up with a prediction that the world will end in 2012. However, it also came up with the phrases:

Jesus is Satan.
There is no God.

I would also hasten to add that all sorts of wonderful prophecies have be found in Moby D*ick by Herman Melville. And could also be found in any book of sufficient length.

Then there is the Mayan calendar. The Mayans had an interesting calendar to be sure, but there are several problems to be had by basing you predictions on it. For instance, the Mayans completely forgot to record the date of their own demise. You would have thought that would have been a big one for them. They didn’t record the date that the calendar was developed, nor did they record the coming of the conquistadors (Although one scholar suggest that Cortez arrived on the date that an ancestor was supposed to return. I’d say that they got that one wrong.). The number of things the calendar fails to predict is quite staggering when you think about it:

Christianity.
Going into space.
The Black Death.
Discovery of nuclear power.
The formation of Mexico.
Either world war.
Communism.
Democracy.
The Industrial Revolution.

The Mayan calendar is based on a date in the distant past: August 11, 3114 B.C. Why that date is significant is anyone’s guess. They had a long count that they started from that date. Why the long count is that length is anyone’s guess. They stopped the calendar in December, 2012. Why that date is anyone’s guess.

Why anyone thinks that the Mayan’s knew when the world would end is anyone’s guess.

I couldn’t agree more with you

I remember the same controversy or similar when I was 12 years old when the year 2000 came around. Nothing happened. No Y2K, no nothing. I remember partying but thats it. Went to bed and everything was fine the next day, just a new millenium.

I also heard a documentary where they discussed the mayan calender saying that it didn’t say it would be an “end” to the world but just an end of an era and the beginning of the new era. They probably didn’t know what era was or what to expect since it was so far in the future for them so they left it out and it appears to be “the end”

I have a feeling that things again will be normal. Yea events and such will happen from now until then but that is life. Now whether those are huge events we will never know until they happen. I have a feeling that if anything that calander claims to predict and what could actually happen is just big changes or global changes. Whether that is political or natural. However no one knows what hill happen but my gut feeling tells me its nothing to worry about.

however around 2010 I would start to keep a stash of supplies or emergencies just for any disaster. Unless there is supporting evidence or on the verge of a nuclear war, I wouldn’t go as far as to build a shelter of your own yet. But I would be ready to so if something did happen like a nuclear war you can be ready to survive to the best of your ability. Thats what I hope to do and I advice any intelligent man to do too.

This can’t be true. The president of my institution told us on Wednesday about all the buildings and programs that were going to be in place by 2016. I’m sure Jesus wouldn’t be so rude as to come back before all those plans were fulfilled!😛

More seriously (well, I was serious above too in a way), I don’t know why anyone takes these things seriously. They just keep moving the date a few years ahead. Isn’t it obvious that the date-setters don’t have a clue what they are doing and are just fooling themselves and anyone who listens to them? Why would anyone even try to figure out their calculations at this point?

The more important point (and this is the sense in which I was serious above) is that Jesus could return at any time and all our plans and calculations are tentative. Beyond that, it’s all nonsense.

We have a great thread going on in the “Back Fence” area of CAF. It is called “End Times Speculation, the Return”. Great questions and answers on this thread.

Would I be splitting hairs if I thought that I heard that the correct date was Dec.25th? 😃 Wouldn’t that be a great Christmas gift??😉

We will see the end times when, in the Father’s will, either we die or Jesus comes again. How’s that for a prediction??👍

Truth is, even with end times speculation, dates are inacurat. Jesus said that only the Father knows the day or hour. But it is also true that Jesus told us the signs to look for, just as many prophets from the OT did. It is important to pay attention to the signs of the times. I have a very difficult time believing that the end of the world will be December 21, 2012. My reasons for it are simple and maybe wise. Jesus told us that only the Father knows the day or hour.
Will something extremely extraordinary happen on that day or around it? Probably, but it won’t be the end of the world according to what Jesus said. The end of the world might happen sometime close to that date, but I don’t believe it makes sense for it to happen on that date.

If the end is predicted for day X, we can be sure of being around on day X+1 🙂

I am watching a program right now about this topic, “2012:Startling New Secrets”. Something most definitely is going to happen on that date, although I doubt it will be the return of Christ. Too many cultures point to that day (some even give an hour) to ignore. Anyone who can’t even entertain the idea that something will happen, is just too ignorant to read up on it.
