Hello,

My Dad is in intensive care in a hospital nearby. He is 82 years old.

Can anyone here point me to some good material such that I can have as firm an understanding as possible on end-of-life issues from the Catholic perspective? The hospital personal are at a point where it appears they are looking to us for answers and hinting as to possible means.

Also, please pray for him. Any reasonable recovery is virtually impossible but we can pray for his comfort and his soul as well as his children making the right decisions on his behalf.

God bless you and your father Mijoy.

Here is a link to the Catholic Bioethics Center: ncbcenter.org/

You can even contact them (leave a message). They have been known to call back with guidance and support.

I will say a prayer for your family.

Here is a good resource. The part that would apply to your situation obviously ends at the “Giving Instructions for Future Care” section, but even that section has some good ethical considerations.

I’m sorry for your pain. I went through this about 21 years ago and I know how much it hurts. My prayers are with you and your family.

Peace
