Staying in a marriage like this is HARMFUL to the children. Divorce is terribly painful, but this marriage is much more damaging.

What is wrong with my other posts? I have asked for prayer for my stepdaughter, I have asked for a bit of relationship advice, and I have said Thank You to some of the posts that replied back to me. If Pinky didn’t want an honest opinion from people, she wouldn’t post. No one knows both sides of the story. We have all encountered women and men who have both told different versions of what really happens in their relationship. He’ll say one thing, she’ll say another, and the truth is somewhere in between.

I think she was referring to Pinkyyy’s posts. Those who have been here for a while have been able to follow the story. Pinkyyy’s husband is abusive and violent. Did you read her reply to you? She has needed to get out for a while. No woman deserves to live in fear of her own husband!
 
As so many have said before, do not walk away…run and run quickly. I’ve been a victim of abuse in the past and I made the mistake of staying, hoping that he would change. He didn’t…and I ended up in the hospital. You are in my prayers, sweet girl. Be safe!!!
 
I hope Pinkyyy is ok… it doesn’t seem like she has logged on to this site since the day she started this thread.

Pinkyyy, if you are reading this, I am praying for the safety of you and your child. God bless you.
 
I have been thinking of her and praying for her, too. Too many of us have been in dangerous situations trying to get away. Mother Mary be with your child, she needs you now.
 
Yes go and quickly. I was married for 4 years and I can’t remember one week going by when he did not yell at me for something. I was spit on, locked out of the house, and slapped. He also gave me 3 STDs. No one should have to put up with that.

**I have trouble with this concept, one of a God capable of hate. I’ve trudged a long, arduous road in search of a loving God, only to find this Burma Shave sign on the side of the highway: “God Hates” “All Sin”. This gives me pause and reason to recoil from anyone else’s experience with the God of their understanding. It’s clear that even within the confines of any given religion there is considerable room for interpretation. I interpret God to be just, but not hateful.

I reject a God who hates. Thank you, savienu.

God loves all things he has created. He even loves Satan He is a God of love, and He is a God of justice. However, he does hate sin. The Bible acknowledges this. He doesn’t approve of sin, and he hates it. Much as a parent loves their child unconditionally but may hate their actions, God hates sin.

Just doing a quick search for the word hate in the Bible:

A lot of these quotes, in context, are the Lord speaking, or prophets speaking for the Lord. Now granted, not all of these words in context are not saying “God hates this or that,” but some of them are.

Thank you, savienu, for providing this search, though it is practically impossible for me to understand who is doing the speaking and who is doing the hating.

Given the possibility that the God of Catholic understanding is indeed capable of hating, then I am compelled to move away from Him. It seems that if God were capable of hate, then He would also be capable of incredulity in the face of raw injustice and, as a direct result, willing to intervene. I don’t see that happening in my life or the lives of those around me, so I have grown to believe that God is without emotion. But if He can hate, then my heart is closed to Him, just as it is to every other instigator here.

I really think you are nitpicking what I and others have tried to say. God does not HATE human beings. He hates ACTIONS, he hates SIN, because sin is ugly, and unloving, and contrary to everything He is. He himself is not “capable of hate” as you put it, in the same way human beings are capable of hate. Are you expecting a God to approve of all our actions no matter what? 🤷 Did God love what Hitler and the Nazi Regime did, or did He rightly, and justly, hate it?

I did not suggest that God hates human beings. But if he hates actions and sin because they are contrary to everything He is, then He is indeed capable of hating. This elementary attributing of human character defects to God is very unsettling and I want no part of it. I don’t expect God to approve of my actions or Hitler’s actions (why does Hitler always come into this conversation when just garden-variety sinners are perfectly apropos?). He need not hate the actions when He has the last word at judgment.

This seems so sophomoric, assigning “hate” and other human emotions and responses to the ultimate Being. If it seems I am nitpicking for attempting to grasp a little clarity on the subject, then so be it. It’s better than settling for veneer.

Limerick-

Sin is what separates us from God, and that is what he hates…that separation. He hates that we stray from him because he wants us to share in the infinite goodness of his love. God created us in love. It would not be reasonable to think that he would would hate seeing us separated from his love by our own will. Of course he would hate that.

I know I hate it when I see my children do things that could hurt them.
