Have you ever wondered what will happen when the end of the world occurs… will it be just the end of earth or the end of the entire physical universe ?? (or will it even matter to anyone)

I can easily see our earth getting destroyed by some natural event or by atomic war or alien invasion or global warming or whatever… BUT will the rest of the universe go on or could it be that the rest of the universe is part of our experience with eternity ? I would love to see a dinosaur planet or some parallel dimension.

It is a very good question. I am open to the belief that God may have other life in the Universe. If so then the end of our world will not mean the end of this universe. God may have another planet for Him to do the same as He did for us.

Disregarding the apocalypse, the earth is more likely to end long before the universe does. Now, whether the apocalypse will bring about the end of the world, the end of the universe, or just the end of the age of humankind, I’m not entirely certain since the language is fairly loose.

I think it would be antithetical to (or at least inconsistent with) God’s nature to destroy the cosmos; rather, in the fullness of time, perhaps he will renew it as he is renewing us. A “cosmic redemption”, perhaps!

Why have an end of the world at all?

Bishop Sheen said God will not allow evil to exist forever. He will end it.

If Sheen is right it seems that the entire universe will be extinguished as it would have no further use. ( and even dumb animals on some remote planet killing and eating each other would be a relative evil, although not a culpable evil ).

More like the End of Time. There will be no retreat.

I think this is what scientists say about the end of the universe (filtered thru my limited layperson’s conceptions): Everything is speeding away from the “big bang” origin and becoming more and more scattered, expanding the universe, and eventually due to entropy things will disintegrate and finally even atoms will disintegrate into particles and stop jiggling becoming totally cold.

In a way this is sort of parallel to the Nordic idea.

As for the earth, barring any cataclysm like global warming or impact from some huge meteor, it come to an end much much sooner in some 5 or so billion years when the sun self-destructs; and all life on earth will cease in about a billion years as the sun becomes ever hotter on its way to self-destruction.

These all sound very sad, and perhaps humans (if we don’t self-destruct thru global warming or nuclear war, etc) will be able to move to some more life-hospitable planet.

The important thing from a Christian point of view is that heaven is everlasting (as is hell), and we need to shift our strong focus away from the material world and put some focus on the spiritual world, which is beyond our human, scientific comprehension. We know it exists from what the prophets and God Himself thru Jesus has told us about it. And I trust them as much, if not more than, the scientists. 🙂

beats me but either way it can’t come soon enough.

If we get a chance at a zombie apocalypse I would be excited for that .
