I have been working on an End Times critique on my site. I am still in the process of developing it. Here is the link litteralchristianlibrary.wetpaint.com/page/Eschatology

For those who are interested in this topic, check it out and let me know what you think and how I can improve on it. It is easy to overlook things while you try to do something, and I am sure I have so far. If there is anything I can do to make it more easy friendly then I am open for suggestions.

My approach to End Times is Amillennial for the most part, and just like all my Biblical studies, I follow the orthodox teachings of the Catholic Church and I rely heavily upon the Early Church Fathers. So this critique is very rich in End Times theology of the Early Church Fathers. I just wanted to make that clear so it will be expected!

Thank you for those who take the time to check it out!

So far I like what I see and agree with your viewpoints. I read the 1,000 year reign. I really appreciate the link talking about partial and full preterism. I didn’t know what the difference was. I’d label myself as a partial preterist.

I read the Great Tribulation section and was wondering about Revelation 6:12-17. Do you see partial preterist applications to these verses or only future ones? I would link them to the Olivet Discourse (Mat 24:29-30)

According to the link you provided about full preterism, the partial preterist solution is placing Christ’s second coming after (Mat 24:34). In this way I would see a first fulfillment of (Rev 6:12-17) at 70 A.D. I also would see a future final application at the end of time.

Also, I see (Rev 7:14) as applying to the Great Tribulation in chapter 6.

That is my two cents so far. Good job. I’ll read more as I get time.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

Hi Copland,

Just skimmed it before posting. It looks great - and am looking forward to using it. You’ve done a lot of work. Really like having the commentaries from the ECF’s.

Thanks,

I have talked with Joe Shepherd who created the site that I gave the link to that you referred to, great guy, and he did a marvelous job. I differ in some details even though I hold an amillennial view as he does. But you will notice that I gave a dual interpretation on 6:12-17. This is what I said in my commentary, “This passage offers detailed explanation of the miracles that took place at the cross, and the final tribulation of the world.” Here is the link to the excerpt of my commentary litteralchristianlibrary.wetpaint.com/page/Revelation+6%3A12-17

I often will say that those are types of future events. Kind of like certain people in history are types of the Antichrist who is to come.

Thanks again!

Thank you, I am thrilled that you can find it useful! I have poured a lot of time into it, I have been consumed with it the past few days, to say the very least. But I have been wanting to do something like this for quite some time since I have repositioned myself from a premillennial dispensationalist to a Catholic orthodox minded Amillennialist.

I plan on building upon the commentary portions of the critique after I finish up the End Times topics.

Thank you for your kind words!

Thanks for the link. I either missed it or didn’t read that far yet. I like the dual interpretation. Some insights I had never considered, as I have been focussing on the events surrounding 70 A.D. lately. It all fits quite well into the understanding I’ve been researching.

I agree and use the same types terminology.

Christ refers to His body as the Temple that is destroyed and rebuilt in three days. We Christians die and are reborn in baptism, and die and rise into eternity

The Old Covenant Temple in Jerusalem (a miniature of the heaven/earth) destroyed and rebuilt into the Kingdom of God. This old heaven and earth destroyed and the new heaven and earth are made by God and enter into eternity.

Look forward to reading more of your site later.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

I remember that in the past I always leaned towards the literal interpretation of Scripture and even in the book of Revelation. Not that I did not understand that the Scriptures uses metaphors and various figures of speech and symbolic language, but I usually believed that those things were making reference to something literal. I think those of us who do look for the literal interpretation get characterized unfairly as being inconsistant. But when I studied St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas and their teachings on the senses of Scripture, I got the same feeling as Scott Hahn by being released from the self binding position of an either or interpretation. But I do lean towards a literal meaning if possible, but now I gladly welcome the other senses to reveal those hidden mysteries within the Scriptures. I have been enjoying some dialogue on another forum concerning prophecy, and most of them are Protestants who really don’t know how to take it when I bring that approach to the table. Where they usually will jump all over a position that is not completely their own, they have not really given me much opposition, I guess because we have more common ground than they might have thought.

no matter the “age” of humanity, certain individuals will always want to know more than what is given unto us. the Nazarene is quite explicite in this matter and often discouraged his followers from wanting to know the future. he teaches us to:

“Be on your guard; let no one mislead you. Many will come claiming my name, and saying. ’ I am he’ ; and many; will be mislead by them. When you hear of wars and rumours of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things are bound to happen; but the end is still to come… But about that day or hour no one knows, not the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father.” Mark 13:7,32

in truth, end-time theology concentrates on certain parts of the bible only, particularly the prophets and the book of revelation. the new testament is almost unrecognizable.

knowingly, the clencher for me is the fact that end-time theology has little to do with the Nazarene.

“ekei”

Why is this Greek word translated as time in chapter 12 of the book of Revelation?

Thanks

Oh, Great site, as always.

Thank you COPLAND3

I new something was wrong. Sorry about the mistake!

When you have to resort to anything other then the book of Revelations ,You are braking the rule in Rev.22/18
ask if they can explain Revelations 10/04 , and only use, The rule in Rev.22/18 .If they have to resort to any other book ,old and new testament ,verse .Or other interpretation, They are wrong.
