A good argument can be made that the End Times are occurring now.

Though Christ said that we can’t know the day or hour of the end, itself, He gave us certain signposts of its near approach.

What I say here is my opinion, only. The question is, Is the opinion correct?

THE LEAFING OF THE FIG TREE.

Christ said,

32 "Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.
33 In the same way, when you see all these things, know that he is near, at the gates. Matthew 24:32-33.

We know from various verses in the Bible that the fig tree and its parts are the symbol for Judaism, the Jewish people, their leaders, and their nation Israel. For example, see Jeremiah 24:5, 8.

Consistently, immediately after the cleansing of the temple, Jesus curses the fig tree, and it withers, Matthew 21:19-20, anticipating the fall of Judaism and its replacement by Christianity.

There is an appearance, therefore, that when Christ says that the “leafing of the fig tree” is a sign that He is “even at the gates,” He is referring to the reestablishment of Israel by the U.N. in 1948.

The Fundamentalists appear right on this one.

THE ABOMINABLE DESTRUCTIVE THING ON HOLY GROUND.

Christ also said,

15 “When you see the abominable destructive thing spoken of through Daniel the prophet standing on holy ground (let the reader take note),
16 then those in Judea must flee to the mountains,…” Matthew 24:15-16.

If anything in the history of man qualifies as an abominable destructive thing, it’s a nuclear weapon.

coloradoright.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/nuclear_blast.jpg

Where is there a nuclear weapon on holy ground?

How about Israel’s nuclear arsenal? Israel is believed to have about 100 nuclear weapons.

WOE TO PREGNANT WOMEN AND NURSING MOTHERS.

Christ says…

19 Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days. Matthew 24:19.

These words are almost universally mistakenly viewed as words of pity for women “in the delicate state.” Nothing could be further from the truth. Without exception, every other time the gospels place the Greek word *ouai * or “woe” in Jesus’ mouth, it is a threat. See Matthew 11:21, 18:7, 23:13, 23:14,
23:15, 23:16, 23:23, 23:25, 23:27, 23:29.

Why in heaven’s name would Jesus threaten pregnant women and nursing mothers?

Simple: Because he’s talking about women who should be pregnant or who should be nursing, but for abortion!

The pro-choice movement itself is an end times sign!

LIKE SODOM

Christ also said…

28 Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building;
29 on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all.
30 So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. Luke 17:28-30.

Is the comparison with Sodom a coincidence, or was there purpose to it?

In 2003, in the case of Lawrence v. Texas, the Supreme Court struck down sodomy laws in the United States. Additionally, more and more states and countries are approving of homosexual marriage. Additionally, the churches have even opened the pulpit to active homosexuals, and the sexual misbehavior of priests in the Catholic Church is clearly a homosexual problem – about 80% of the victims are post-pubescent young males.

THE GREAT FALLING AWAY.

Paul foreshadows another pre-end sign, in 2 Thessalonians…

1 We ask you, brothers, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling with him,
2 not to be shaken out of your minds suddenly, or to be alarmed either by a “spirit,” or by an oral statement, or by a letter allegedly from us to the effect that the day of the Lord is at hand.
3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For unless the apostasy comes first… 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3.

Apostasies have occurred through history. Therefore, Bible commentators by-and-large conclude that Paul would not have referred to such a thing unless he had a particularly enormous apostasy in mind. So, Paul’s pre-End apostasy is referred to as The Great Falling Away.

Yes, there are some compelling arguments that we may be nearing the end times.

I don’t know but a few week ago, I had a dream that looked like the end of the world-it was a little scary. I was looking at our planet earth from a bigger planet I was on that was very close to earth. It was rocky and redish brown with no life on it. THe surface was cracking…and this bright light was coming through. Also the sky was a weird colour-it was dark, yet not night time.

I remember thinking in my dream that this was the end of the world as we know it, but perhaps there was another meaning.
Please excuse me if this post doesnt fit with this thread, but mabe somenone out there has some insights:confused::confused:

I can’t cope with doom and gloom on this scale; I just live quietly, one day at a time!

apocalyptic material is always incredibly difficult to get a grasp of.Meant to help the oppressed to deal with the oppression surrounding it, it is notoriously easy to read things into it that don’t belong and create any scenario and get any result you wish to see in it.It can be explosively dangerous and create fear where it is not necessary.if you stay away from evangelical darbyesque speculation you will be on safer ground. That stuff has only been around in force since about the 1840’s

What happened then that got everyone so spooked? I mean, people had more faith in the face of Muslim world domination and the death of Christendom, and now, perversions this way and that, every indulgence, and they’re depressed!

Anything know about the state of people’s temperaments towards the end of the Roman empire? And the hight?

What happened?

Two concepts. Playboy (public sexual promiscuity). CNN (24/7 left-leaning news cycle).

:rotfl:

I’m sorry! It’s just… I know, I’m quite certain that those two evils lead to it, but… I was asking about his mention of this “doomsday” business cropping up in the 1840’s. And I don’t think Playboy was around then. 🤷

When did the Industrial revolution start precisely? I could see a rise in industrialization leading to a detachment from the natural world…

The Fundamentalists appear right on this one.
Do Fundamentalists accept that all eight signs and five amplifications appeared, and were fulfilled, around 1948 (or within a generation)?

"Learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things, know that he is near, at the gates. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. (Mat 24:32-34)

So if Jesus said that His coming will be as a theif in the night, and when we least expect it, what makes anyone think He’s going to come soon , when everybody seems to be expecting it?

To answer the title question…No.

I am a former pre-trib rapture pre-mill fundamentalists Baptist. Key word former, there
is hope.😃

Peter,

You are letting a group of people who cherry pick verses to make them fit a new theology be your guide. The scriptures you quote have nothing to do with the Second Coming or Advent of our Lord Jesus Christ. They were taken out of context and applied in a way to make them mean something they are not meant to imply.

Jeremiah 24, please read the entire chapter. Verse 1 tells you Israel is in Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar. The Jeremiah prophecy has been completed when Israel returned to the land prior to Jesus.

Matthew 24, called the Olivet Discourse, covers two main points prior to the verses you quoted. The destruction of the Temple, the signs for it, and the Coming of the Son of Man.
Verse32-33 refer to the signs of the temple destruction as Jesus tells us no one know when he will return. Tribulations, well the church has suffered great tribulations in the past.
Why were those Christians allowed to die? Why is the church allowed to suffer in Africa, China, the Muslim countries, but the American Church will not suffer? Why? God loves us more than the others? It is a smack in the face of our suffering brothers and sisters to teach this, especially when the American Church is not suffering persecutions. Tarnish, yes. But to think Jesus is going to ride the clouds to save us when we feel uncomfortable is plain wrong.

Luke’s passage just tells us that the Day of the Lord will start just like any other. The two verses prior to the ones you quoted, Jesus says like in the days of Noah. So to use the logic applied to the reference to Sodom, only 8 people and a bunch of animals are going to make it? Also, sodom was a local event. Not world wide. The assertion falls apart if examined.

2 Thess. St Paul died @68 AD. Thess was written earlier. The great persecutions did not start until Nero, well it was local. Empire wide was much later. Why are they ignored? Those persecutions were horrible. Read the early church’s history.

Does our country have problems? Yes. But Jesus tells us not to look for Christ there, or there or over there. He expects us to get off our duffs and live the Gospel and to apply the Great Commission.

Jesus says no one know the time, only the Father. Yet these fundamentalist claim special revelation. Gnostic anyone. Special revelation of a movement born in the fever induced visions of a poor scottish teenage girl in the early 1800’s. Neither Darby or Scofield created dispensationalism. They just took it and developed it. Do some research on Darby and Scofield. Learn about the men who nutured this movement.
Remember, the fundamentalist have been predicting the end since the 1840’s with the Millerite movement. @ 169 years and still getting it wrong. Not one end time prediction has come true. Not then, nor since 1948. Every prediction since 1948 on the Second Advent of Christ has been wrong. 1968, 1988, 2000 (Y2K), now we are seeing the Iraq war is the beginning of the end, no it is 2018, no 2028. Or 2013, the Mayan predictions.

Read the catechisms and catholic scholars to find out what the church teaches. There are even some good presbyterian works on debunking the “last days madness”. Walk away from it like I did.

What did Jesus Himself say of worry: “What Shall it Gain a Man?”. Why worry? Ultimately you make the leap to leave your worries on Christ.
I still remember tromping out as a child to the movies in the 70s to see Orson Welles bellow over the movie-version of The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey. A seven-year old like me was then reading of the E.U.and the Beast, the Russians attacking Israel, the Chinese show up with an army of 200 million out of nowhere and, hey wait a minute, we’re all at Megiddo. O.K. I’m a kid, this is spooky but I grow up and realize some Protestants are making a lot of bread and butter on these prognostications. Even Phillip Yancey, who grew up on this stuff, now laughs at all those diagrams those preachers put up on backboards explaining the End Game (some with Our Church as the Whore of Babylon no less - nice). John Hagee has a really good stagehand too in that regard. Top job. Nice Beasts. Lines are straight. Good Colorwork.
But Christ Himself said on Earth nobody knows the time. A pastor leaving his million dollar megachurch on his personal lear jet knows the time? Really?
As for contemporary Catholic eschatology, apart from the nonapproved divine personal apparitions, there are really only those within the Fatima movement (an approved revelation) who claim for some reasons that Rome’s interpretation by Pope Ratzinger and Cardinal Bertone of the Fatima prophecies do not reflect the apocalyptic emphases of Sister Lucia’s 3rd Secret which was only revealed until the year 2000, 83 years after 1917. (Mel Gibson even went to see her to attempt to get the goods).
Back in the 80s, as a student in school, we organized Ukrainian Catholic Rosary Groups, in keeping with the Fatima message, to pray consistently for the collapse of the Soviet Union, freedom for Ukraine, and the Consecration of Communist Russia so that she would stop spreading her errors throughout the world as, we may believe, the Blessed Virgin told Lucia in 1917. Pope JPII was so convinced of the veracity of the Message of Fatima that he thanked the Virgin of Fatima personally in Portugal too and placed the bullet that was shot at him by the KGB-hired Turk attempting to kill the Pope on May 13 (Fatima Apparition Day) in the crown of the Fatima Virgin Mary.
The whole Fatima prophecy seemed to emphasize the danger of Russia at the time and our prayers’ for Ukraine’s freedom from Russia filled in perfectly. Well, the Soviet Union ultimately did collapse. Mission accomplished?
I was quite active with greeting Ukrainian political and religious dissidents who Gorbachev let leave the Soviet Union at this time, the head of the underground (it was illegal) Ukrainian Catholic Church). He gave the Soviet Union no more than 10 years. He was right.
But Russia is still a problem. I mention in passing and not for propagation of any revelation of reading way back before the collapse of the Soviet Union of a stigmatist (he bore the wounds of Christ - never Church verified, kind of hard in Ukraine in 1945 with the Red Army coming in and destroying the entire Church). In a book about him I read how laying in bed, the people asked him, with the Red Army surrounding the Church and people, “Sir, will Ukraine ever be free?” The stigmatist paused, reflected on how many millions of Ukrainians had died under atheist Soviet Communism in the 30s, and said she will be, but “she will not be the country you expect.” I read this at a time in the early 80s when nobody could foresee the collapse of Communism and I thought what could he mean a Ukraine nobody expected. Well, it turned out just as the stigmatist expressed, the Soviet Union collapsed, and the newly-freed Ukraine became nothing like the diaspora expected at first- corruption from living too long under totalitarian society, low national self-consciousness, and an imperialistic Russia next door who still seems hardly reconciled to the Church per Fatima, and parts of the Russified East did not at that time turn out as the diaspora thought. Yet its moving forward, a work in progress.
I only mention this because really now it is only parts of the Fatima movement, readers of St. Malachy’s prophecies, and the non-approved Marian apparitons which we can’t mention (AND WITH GOOD REASON) on this forum who continue the arguments of Days of Illumination of Souls, Saint Faustina’s 3 days of darkness before the End of the World (John Paul II had Sister Faustina canonized).
But it would be a real mistake if we were to merely become a Church relying too heavily on private revelations, or bible interpretation, for eschatology and endtimes. That would surely be time spent better in prayer in mass. Sorry for verbosity. I hope I have not offended anyone. But it’s good sometimes not to get too worked about the end. The late Malcolm Muggeridge once wrote that every generation on earth has just about always thought it was the last as it lends more importance to one’s life. God Bless All.
p.s. we never had nukes before either so who knows. Focus on God, His Son and Mary.

I am not certain, but this may be the most unreadable post in the entire history of CAF. I could not even find the second sentence.

I think you’re right. Sorry about that. Just about to go to sleep. You know, you are right. Sorry. ZZZZ

Well, I got it…and liked it. But then, it’s 3 AM, so maybe tired mind’s think alike? 😛

Who was St. Malachy?

Hate to tell you but the Muslim almost took over the West completely and would have dismantled Christianity… Look at Spain at the time of the Moors… As far as perversions and indulgences they have been around since time beginning of time…And speaking of the Roman Empire many believed with the barbarians eating away at the empire that the Second Coming was coming.! It was really an end to the world as they knew it. Are we in the End times- yes. Is it around the corner?Well 2000 yrs ago they said the end was near and it is . But not in man’s accounting of time, but God’s . He will come when it is the Kairos and not before no matter how we try to rush it.
In the meantime we are to be alert and ready, for a final judgment before God will happen whether it is our own life that ends or the life of the world.
The book of Revelation is a book of hope and not doom and gloom as many see it. God wins the Lord triumphs and his faithful ones are together forever with Him.
