A large number of my friends and family are protestant and think that we are very close to the end times, the obama re-election signified that for them, among other things that are going on in the world. What is everyones thoughts about this? I’m on the school of thought that it’s the end of America at least morally, I’m remembering Pope Benedict’s speech a couple of years ago when he compared the western world to the falling of Rome and said the sun was setting on the western world. Was he right? (Edited)

First, it is always wrong to use the word we in a post, unless you are referring to a specific group like your family. We don’t know how many Catholics voted for the wrong choice. I certainly did not.

End times? No.

"FOR the second time in his pontificate, Pope Benedict XVI has made a point of saying that Christ’s coming as Judge and the end of the world are not “near” as some suggest; that certain events must come first before He returns for the Final Judgment.
Code:
"Paul himself, in his Letter to the Thessalonians, tells us that nobody can know the moment of the Lord’s coming and warns us against any alarm that Christ’s return might be at hand." —POPE BENEDICT XVI, December 14th, 2008, Vatican City
Peace,
Ed

End of the world? Well…I don’t know about that. End of America? I wouldn’t doubt it. I viewed America as the New Rome for years. I saw this coming, I know many others did too. I believe this time period will be infamously known in history as The Fall of the Western World, or The Fall of America. It’s really sad, and I hope I’m wrong, but it’s going to be very difficult for a country like ours to bounce back.

May God have Mercy on us all. :crossrc:

No certainly the end of the world is not near however the end of the west is close.
The end of the Roman empire was preceded with pretty much the same issues we are seen today, lack of moral fiber, corruption at all levels, rampant homosexuality and perticularly in the present era we add abortion on an unprecendented scale any one can see this.
It is an inescapable conclusion that we will soon see major political and sociological changes. History has this nagging tendency to repeat itself.
We think we have learned from our past mistakes and yet we stubbornly repeat them.
Unfortunately 50% of Catholics did choose death (abortion) and Same Sex Marriage agendas and as Catholics we need to cathequize and evangelize our brethen so they correct their ways or they will be swallowed together with the rest.

Lot’s of prayer is required and a positive response to the call made by the Holy Father to work for our faith.

Well, if one was to open up the newspaper it would certainly look like the endtimes: wars and rumours of wars, earthquakes, false prophets, apostasy, lawlessness, love growing cold, etc.

In the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 24:37-40 we read:

As it was in Noah’s day, so will it be when the Son of Man comes. For in those days before the Flood people were eating, drinking, taking wives, taking husbands, right up to the day Noah went into the ark, and they suspected nothing till the Flood came and swept all away. It will be like this when the Son of Man comes.

It is interesting that at the apparition at Heede, Germany in 1937, the Blessed Virgin said that " mankind is worse than before the deluge.":bigyikes:

I wonder what our Lady is thinking now? :o

It may be… or may not be…That said it is Never too early to prepare your soul to meet Christ, and strengthen yourself with prayer and our Holy Mother’s help to withstand the tribulations of the end times if they are here… can’t hurt to also have your house blessed and items of protection on hand, ie blessed beeswax candles, just in case… you can always pass them on to the next generation if the end times do not arrive in your lifetime. 😃

Neither the Pope nor the Church has stated we are in end times or even that they are near.
Nothing is happening nowadays that has not happened in one way or another or at one time or another during the past 2000 years.

Ed, does not the world depend upon the the US?

We are all just a few years away (at the most decades) from our own End Times.

That’s what we should be concerned about.

One could say we are always in the end times.

For example

Every second of every day is the end of the world for those who die. There’s no waiting for the “end of the world” as some cataclysmic event, because the end of the world occures for everyone who dies. At the moment of death, the soul is judged, and they know immediately where they will be spending eternity. They don’t wait for some time in the future to know 1051

Maybe purification is necessary 1st before a soul enters heaven, 1030

or God forbid, maybe their destination is hell 1034 1035 1036 1037

At the final judgement, which maybe for the world, billions of years from now, only the Father knows the date, all the dead, body and soul are reunited. If a soul is in heaven they are now in heaven body and soul. If a soul is in hell, they are in hell body and soul 1023
