Anyone ever use their engagement ring as a wedding ring? My fiance isn’t too wild about jewelry, so one ring is just fine with her. Plus, we aren’t too excited about spending big bucks on the matching wedding band for the engagement ring, since I just bought a house and we’ve got to buy furniture for after she moves in. Some people have said that they still look engaged without a wedding band. Others have said that they wore their engagment ring on their right hand until the wedding, and then switched. Any other ideas?

We don’t have matching bands, My husband’s is his father’s ring, he can’t wear it in his line of work and just got into that habit of not wearing, they were going to get rid of it (not sure why) so my husband decided to have it be his wedding ring. There are lots of plain gold and/or silver bands out there that are not a lot of money and are not very wide. Look around and find something you both like and if you decide you don’t want a different ring, I don’t think there is a problem with that. There are a lot of people who don’t wear them, I’m not one of them, I never take mine off. But I think it is up to the couple.

Yup! my engagement ring is the same ring I wear today and it is my wedding ring. I’m not big on jewelry either and it’s a very simple band with a small and simple diamond. I would have been happy with just the band, but DH picked out the diamond…and it was nice and simple, so it worked for me!

Did you do the hand switch thing after the wedding? Just curious!

I wear only one ring. Dh picked it out and gave it to me when he proposed. It was much wider than I would have picked as I have small hands. It is two rows of diamonds but looks very simple. It is more than enough for me.😃

Nope, wore it on the left hand during engagement and after the wedding. i dont’ think it made a load of difference how it looked to others. Anyone who knew me knew the situation, anyway! 😃

There are no rules - do what works for the two of you and everyone else can just mind their own bees wax. 😃

Congratulations by the way!

Sorry, when I said matching band, I meant the wedding band for her that would match her engagment ring. Her engagement ring is very unique, and it wouldn’t look good with just any band, so we know which one we’d get if we got one at all. My ring is going to be awesome, but it doesn’t look anything like hers! It’s $55 bucks, and it’s Tungsten, and I love it! It’s unscratchable too! Hers band would cost about $450, so it’s a bit for me (us soon enough) to take on.

I say just use her engagement ring if she likes it and would rather not spend the money on a matching wedding band. 👍

oops, sorry!
my rings weren’t a set. We had my engagement ring made, it’s simple and all we could afford at the time, but wanted it to be extra special, so I picked the band and the stone. It’s never been on anyones elses hand!
My wedding ring was our gift from my in-laws. Money was tight and they wanted to help us out. It’s a thin gold band with inset diamonds.
I did get a wrap for my engagement ring when we had our Catholic wedding, we were married in my church, with no priest there:( it was a different time and I was a different person. But my husband wanted me to have a ring from that wedding too and he always felt badly he couldn’t get me a big engagement ring, it was never an issue for me! He got me pretty wrap for around it.I love them all!
I agree with everyone else, one ring would be just fine!!
Best of luck to you!!!

Some people have said that they still look engaged without a wedding band.
What does one look like when they “look engaged”.

When those people say that to you, say “she will be engaged, engaged in a Sacramental marriage.”

Agreed. To me, the rings don’t make the wedding, the sacrament does. I’m just making sure I’m not as weird as some people claim for not buying into the 2 rings on one finger philosophy 😉

I didn’t get an egagement rings until after our tenth aniversary. There was too much other stuff I wanted, and I am not a big jewelry gal, either. When my husband bought me one, it had my birth stone in it, blue topaz, surrounded by 4 small diamonds.

You could buy what is known as an eternity band. It is a band, gold, silver, or platinum, with diamonds or whatever gem she likes, put into the band itself. Many women do this, and only wear this…I have a plain gold band with a solitaire that I wear. But, I think that the eternity band could work really well for what it seems she is looking for. Good luck!

I think she already has a ring and they don’t want to buy another. 😉

Instead of an engagement ring, how about a very unusual wedding ring? You can find some really nice ones on many sites online. My wedding ring is a Celtic knot and I have so many compliments on it. If you are not Irish, there are still many beautiful ones that are easy to wear and very eye-catching.

you don’t really have to spend big bucks on a wedding band to match up with the e-ring. you can buy a white gold band for $150 at most jewelry stores or even less than that…just something plain and simple. No gemstones included, or anything. Just food for thought. She might not want to wear two rings, but if cost is the main issue, it really can be affordable to buy a simple gold band.

Thanks for the ideas! Since she’s already had the engagement ring for awhile, I don’t think she’ll part with it. At this point, we’re left with two choices: stick with what we have or get that band that matches her ring and have both. I just wanted to make sure we weren’t the only ones who have used an engagement ring as a wedding ring as well, but even if we were, I guess that’s ok too!

Thanks!

My husband gave me a fancy Claddagh ring with a sapphire as an engagement ring to wear on my right hand. During the wedding, he placed it on my left. It came with a wedding band which I wear together, but Irish tradition wears the Claddagh three different ways for three different purposes.

I picked out a lab created stone for the engagement ring and we bought bands at a pawn shop. Saved a lot of money that way. We also went with silver instead of gold. Gold is outrageous right now! Anyway, I think it is truly up to the couple. Do what works for you.
