[ACNS, by Gavin Drake] A proposed ecumenical agreement between the Church of England and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland is not about “novel doctrinal statements or additional institutional structures, but about growing in communion and partnership in mission, so that people may be drawn to the good news of peace, the gospel of Jesus Christ,” the co-chairs of the talks say in the introduction to their full report, Growth in Communion – Partnership in Mission, which was released today.
Part of the report, the Columba Declaration, was released on Christmas Eve and had been criticised by the Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) over concerns about shared worship and exchange of ministers. Today, the SEC issued a second statement, in light of the full report, which seems to soften its position.
In it, the SEC say that following its initial statement, “we have been in direct contact with both the Church of Scotland and Church of England and have obtained a copy of the final report. . . We have been able to ask a number of initial questions which have been helpfully answered jointly by the Church of Scotland and the Church of England.”

Here is the best ecumenical agreement ever published: “We believe in One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.”

I just wish I could raise even an iota of interest in the England-Scotland ecumenical agreement, or in another post, the divergent views of Christians and Muslims. I prefer to concentrate my vision on the One, True Lord, and His One, True, Catholic and Apostolic Church. In this vision will I be fulfilled, not in dissecting the entrails of the beliefs of others.

Then perhaps you might want to visit other forums than ‘Non Catholic Religions.’ I’m certain there are conversations that do just that. In this forum, I think we enjoy divergent views.

Not necessarily or unanimously.

I’d take this as a positive development. The CofE already has an agreement with the Church of Wales and I believe a Methodist group in Wales for sharing ministers and buildings. It helps to ensure everyone has access to services, even in more rural areas, while minimising costs for all.

More accurate to say we accept, and sometimes enjoy I suppose, persons with divergent views. It is not the “view” which is precious, nor the “divergence” of views, but rather the individual, made in His image, who holds this or that view. The Truth itself is precious, and we seek to constantly tweak our imperfect views so as to be closer to that Truth. This does not imply that all “views” are equally accurate depictions of that Truth.

And we enjoy each other’s company here, too.
