There is legitimate satisfaction to be found in wargames, milsim, ect. The same can be said for the study of history, inculding the specifics of how battles played out. The problem comes when you look at why you are studying it. Are you studying it to learn, is your purpose in playing these games to protect, are you rooting for the “good guys” when you watch movies, etc; or are you studying it because you enjoy how the other side lost, are you playing games wanting to destroy as much as possible, are you rooting for the “bad guys” to lose; ect.
a note about me: I enjoy soldiering, there is a satisfaction and even sense of joy at accomplishing your mission, whether that mission is building a bridge or clearing a building of hostels (and so killing all of them). The thing I have to watch is that my satisfaction comes from the good (accomplishing whatever I was ordered to do) and not the bad (killing the bad guys).
