Is this a valid enrollment? I took my scapular and asked the priest to bless it and he said a blessing and asked for a blessing upon the wearer. Was I supposed to ask to be enrolled into the brown scapular? Also, the priest didn’t say the specific words that I have read are supposed to be said for enrollment. Is my scapular valid or do I need to have a priest specifically enroll me? Also, I forgot to ask for permission to say the Rosary instead of the Daily Office. Do I need to repeat the process and cover these things for my scapular to be valid?

Also, what if I want to add a different color scapular? Do I need to get it blessed as well or is it that once one is blessed it covers any subsequent scapulars – regardless of color?

Hi Johnnsywife:
I believe the priest blessed your scapular but didn’t enroll you. This means that your brown scapular is now a blessed sacramental and valid from that point of view. However, once you are enrolled, you do not have to keep getting your scapular blessed. This enrollment only pertains to the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. As far as I know, the promises of OLOMC still pertain to you by the wearing of the Brown Scapular.
