Are you saying College Seminary isn’t actual formation?
No that is not what I am saying. The “formation” I am talking about that one gets in major seminary, including but not limited to parish work, direct service to the poor, working side-by-side with other priests/seminarians etc.

I am sure that is offered in a minor seminary, but my understanding is that minor seminary is more focused on study, where in majory seminary, study is important, but the other aspects of formation (spiritual/personal development) are more rigorous.

I am not very familar with “minor seminary” as most of the men discerning in my diocese are already college graduates. Some have the necessary pre-requesite theology & philosphy that they need to enter major seminary. Those who don’t live in a “discernment house” with scheduled activites for helping in their discernment, attend classes to get their credits, have a spiritual director who works with the vocations department, etc.

I also know that the entire time in seminary, as well as our entire lives, are to be spent in formation. Just because one thinks they want to be a priest does not mean that is what God wants. I know a few men who after going trough the whole process, who have chosen not to be ordained.
