Entertainment no longer exists at present, in the West. It is nothing but a bunch of celebrities modeling bad/immoral/perverse/dysfunctional behavior. Even 5 year olds are the targets of propaganda. The Entertainment Industry primarily consists of 6 companies.

Since many in the media promote pagan living and immoral movies, TV and other forms of “entertainment,” God is like an old relic and the Church? It’s just too “restrictive.”

God tells us in the Bible to be either Hot or Cold.

For Catholics, the best course of action is to not watch 98% of the current TV programs and limit their current movie viewing to the unoffensive, which will mean 1 or 2 movies a year, maybe.

Let’s define entertainment… Let’s say it start with the spare time you have. Everybody go fast with their car for a reason, it’s to get some more free time. Right.
Actually the only time you have for God it’s your free time. The rest is obligations. You still can think and pray at work or during commute.
But it all depend what you do with your freetime.
You can give it to God or not, to read bible or enrich you spiritualy.

Entertainment dose not exist? Yes it dose, and like I mentioned, it’s more video games now than movie. People put more money in video games. As a result, ex: Spieldberg almot got a movie he wanted to do on TV instead of Theather, because there is less and less money in that industry. People go see movie less and less. And play more and more Grand Thief auto (a game that you attack old lady to take their money and steal cars and so on, call of duty a game rated 18 year played by millions of kids, because they want it, and the parents buy it.

People are reading and posting on facebook all the time and texting each other. So, communications is there but people have been conditioned to live in the present only and who wants to worry about anything? History? That’s no fun. Wisdom has been reduced to ‘yeah, right,’ whatever makes me happy or allows me to avoid consequences for bad decisions on my part. Knowledge? Enough to graduate. The minimum. After that, a job and someone to be with or not. Truth? That’s up to me to figure out or I’ll just pick it up from my friends.

For example, CAF is a form of entertainment, but it has taught me so much over the years. Also, I don’t have network TV, but I enjoy watching documentaries and other shows on Netflix, which have also taught me a lot about faith and history. Yes, there really is a lot of trash out there, but not all of it is. I don’t think you should throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Movies– Okay, so we have some bad ones. We also have some good ones. Harry Potter (if you can look beyond the magic) has good morals. Les Misérables has a wonderful message in the end. Look at anything Pixar makes for good movies today! Or, if more religious movies are your thing, The Passion of Christ.

Random fact of the day: That storm at Golgotha? Yeah… That was a real storm. No Hollywood magic there.

TV shows– Okay, I agree with you a bit on this one. But I know a few good ones I follow: Phineas and Ferb, Doctor Who, Legend of Korra…

Music– Wow. REALLY broad statement here. You do realize music covers everything from classical to soundtracks to dubstep to K-pop… I’ll use dubstep here, instead of rap. (I wrote an essay last year)

The point of the essay I wrote last year for school was to compare and contrast the dubstep musical genre with Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring*. At the time, people didn’t consider Stravinsky’s work to be music. Similarly, I voice the same complaint about some dubstep today. What I determined is that it is in fact music, although not necessarily very good. I also realized that even within genres, you have a range. Like for dubstep, I can’t stand Skrillex, but actually enjoy Lindsey Stirling’s music.*

You are absolutely right. There was a fight to get the studio to agree to add that word in Gone with the Wind, and you are also right to say that over the decades, more and more bad has been added to desensitize parents and children. Where are the movies about true love, marriage and devotion?

In the past, all TV shows could be watched by the entire family. But there’s a habit effect going on too. Get home from work and you automatically turn on the TV. Even if it’s just playing in the background while you do something else nearby, it helps some people forget about a bad day or take their minds off something. It’s always there.

I think it’s time to break the habit. It’s time to take a look at what little good is available and not get used to the rest.

In the past, all TV shows could be watched by the entire family. But there’s a habit effect going on too. Get home from work and you automatically turn on the TV. Gonna stop you there. Yes I automatically turn the TV on sometimes. But part of it’s because I hate silence a lot of the time. (Adoration and similar being exceptions)

Also, I kinda like how there’s more mature and more child-oriented programming. Adults and kids have different interests. It’s why not every show is Dora the Explorer or even stuff like Spongebob. And as long as there’s no nudity or sex or stuff on TV, I’m fine with it. As fun as it can be to watch stuff like Kim Possible or Phineas and Ferb, sometimes I need a more nuanced plot like I can get with Doctor Who, Friends, or even Legend of Korra (sequel series to Avatar: the Last Airbender, which is, in my opinion, the best original show Nickolodeon’s ever had)

It just doesn’t work. The TV I grew up with had characters I could relate to. I knew everyone were actors but I liked them. I could relate to them. And they weren’t doing anything to offend my sensibilities. That’s why I looked forward to the next episode and kept watching. Today, most TV programs contain characters I can’t relate to at all. Why? They engage in bad behavior and enjoy it. Yes, they are actors but they are allowing themselves to play bad and dysfunctional people. I will never get used to that. It repulses me.

It just doesn’t work. The TV I grew up with had characters I could relate to. I knew everyone were actors but I liked them. I could relate to them. I do agree with you that most TV shows these days are really bad. Not funny, not interesting, and certainly not mature! The humor isn’t really humorous at all. Then there are shows like Breaking Bad about meth heads, that for some reason are very popular. It’s pretty disgusting.

I’m glad I don’t have network TV anymore. I can pick and choose what I like to watch. I can watch old TV shows galore on Netflix. Not all TV shows are terrible these days though, I like a lot of BBC and PBS shows.

I think we’re using it in different ways. When a TV show will warn “mature content” it can mean anything from nudity to gory violence to maybe even sex (depending on context). When I’m using it in my previous post, I’m referring to shows or plots younger kids wouldn’t find as interesting. Take, for example, The Girl in the Fireplace, one of my favorite episodes of Doctor Who. One could call it mature because kids might not enjoy a time travel romance plot. (They probably also wouldn’t like the evil automatons that attack Rose, Rickey and the Doctor) But at the same time, the most “mature” it gets (using the sex and violence definition) is the fact that the plot includes a French monarch’s mistress (sex outside of marriage)

I admire the church truly. It really have a way to talk well about different subject: ex peace in the world. But I think it’s wasting it’s time about talking Atheism the worst problem. Or It look like the worst problem. I think it’s a problem for educated, erudis If I go down the street and ask people, the enemy of faith is entertaining. It’s THE idoltry.Their problem is there 200 years behind. They still try to fight the ideology of the French revolution.
Look, even the movie, people are seeing movie less and less, and Hollywood is scares. Because Video Games are getting more and more popular, it’s a bigger industry than movies.
And look at facebook, how popular it is.
The question people ask themselves, is: when work end so I can go sit to watch tv, is my phone is fishish charged, so I can text, what movie I will see next. People are really getting good at entertaining themselves. We become over entertained. It’s not atheist view that will prevent me or other to go to mass, it’s I want to entertain more and more.
It’s all about entertainment. I am sorry. I hope they wake up soon and fight idoltry where it is.
