Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Pope Francis in his Announcement of the Year of Mercy said:
There is so much for us to ponder, brothers and sisters, in our Mother, given to us by Jesus on the Cross. There is so much in Mary’s Immaculate Heart to love and praise for she is “full of grace”, from the moment of her conception – and sinless her whole life – because of the Infinite Mercy of God for the human family. And she loves us! Love gives and receives. Mary received God’s Mercy and continues to give His Mercy through her hands to all, according to His Will: “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4: 10-11)
If you are like me, you are probably thinking: “I haven’t thought enough of Mary or prayed enough or done anything worth her love. I’m a mess!” – That’s the human condition – in so far as we get dusty from the journey through this world and we need to stop and seek to wash our feet and most importantly our souls. How? As the Pope suggested in the quote above, let us entrust this year of mercy beginning today during this Advent season to the Mother of Mercy. If we can hear again and obey Jesus’ words: “Behold your Mother”, then we can “see by faith” she is gazing on us, for Jesus told her to behold us all in saying to her “Behold your son”. Mary takes her Motherhood very seriously.
Let us cast all our cares on God (cf 1 Peter 5:7) through Mary-- knowing as she knows-- how much He cares for us! She will watch over our penitential journey, as we open our hearts fully to His Mercy coming to us, through her. Let us unite our feeble “yes” to her perfectly humble and loving “Yes” today and all our days.

How perfectly our Heavenly Father God provides for us! He gives us Mary as Mother and Model that we may “see” by faith, His Face of Mercy radiate from Jesus His Son to her first and then to us. This Jubilee Year of Mercy 2015 began on the Feast of her Immaculate Conception which was also the 50th Anniversary of the closing of Vatican II on Dec. 8, 1965. It was Pope Paul VI who closed the Council and also proclaimed Mary, “Mother of the Church”.
