Is concern for the enviroment a legidimate reason for ending menstral periods through means of a pill.
 
Huh? Menstrual cycles are a threat to the environment now? I thought it was bad enough when they declared the CO2 I exhale a pollutant that threatens the globe…

Or are you implying that babies are a threat to the environment? I just want to be sure before I respond.
 
a threat to the enviroment as in you have to dispose of the sanitary instrumjesnts and they often end up in land fields and if you dont need them anymore there will be less trash.

Check the internet for biodegrable ones. You can also buy reuseable ones that have to be washed, but I think that is yukky and goes too far! :cool:
 
One of the hallmarks of catholic thought is the sorting and prioritization of issues by their proportionate impact.

While it is true that we live in a drastically excessive consumer culture, there are a whole lot of things that have a bigger proportionate impact to worry about first before disposable sanitary pads (or diapers for that matter). On the other hand, disposable pads have only existed on earth for, what, 50 years? What did women do… Never mind!

since fish and other wildlife, and possible humans, are demonstrating ill effects from residue of hormones from the pill in the rivers and the water supply my first guess would be no, use of the pill will simply add to the planet’s woes. I am unable to determine how your menstrual period affects the environment. If you are concerned about the waste products, you could go au naturel and use the reusable sponges or organic washable products for your personal hygiene.

You do know the pill does NOT end your menstrual period, even the versions that limit it still give you 4-5 periods a year.

The Pill is the threat to the environment.
 
The entire fashion industry is a far greater waste of resources. Imagine polluting the Earth because some unelected entity judges that you are out of fashion and coerces you to “correct” your clothing, which is functioning just fine. Why raise gas taxes on everyone?

Then don’t use them. Use biodegradable products and burn them with the rest of your burnable trash in the burn pit.

It solves the problem you are concerned with (and yes it is a real environmental problem) without using hormones (which make other real environmental problems). And once you try it, I suspect you’ll never want to go back to the other products. It’s a shame more women don’t know about this alternative.

In addition the luna pads themselves are a good way to address the concern you have, as they are washable.

So instead of going through a few pads and tampons each month to save the environment, you want to urinate out hormones into it instead?

A friend was telling me about how she uses something called “the cup”.

Yip, its exactly. exactly what it sounds like.

Lasts for 9 years though.
