Enzo and the Glory Ensemble (Catholic prayers, hymns, and psalms set to metal music)

To those with an interest in Catholic metal music:

I have been privileged to help out Italian musician Enzo Donnarumma with some of the administrative aspects of releasing his album In The Name Of The Father under the project name Enzo and the Glory Ensemble.

He’s taken 10 well-known Catholic prayers, hymns, and psalms and set them to original metal music with an array of well-known guest musicians, such as Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear/Gamma Ray), Mark Zonder (Fates Warning), Gary Wehrkamp & Brian Ashland (Shadow Gallery), Kobi Farhi (Orphaned Land) and Marty Friedman (Megadeth).

I always thought this would be a cool idea that I would do if—you know—I had musical talent and know-how, but I never imagined someone would actually make such an album.

I’m impressed with the lineup, too. It’s great to see some of these guys that you don’t necessarily think of as “Christian” artists putting their faith into a project like this.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention Cradle Catholic, who has done something similar: put spoken prayers and such to metal music (the difference there being no sung vocals). For example, check out: Sancte Michael Archangele. I really dig their stuff, too!

Hey, Wampa, are you familiar with Leah? I’ve been listening to her stuff a lot recently. Catholic homeschooling mother of five and metal artist on the side.

Joe, I have been vaguely aware of her for awhile, but never gave her stuff more than a few listens because I’m not much into Celtic metal. When I recently got hooked on the Project Aegis Angel In The Ashes charity song, I dug into her work more (and learned about her Catholic background). I’m still trying it out to see if I come around to enjoying it.

Also, I remember you’ve mentioned Narnia in the past. They just announced that they are reforming with Christian Liljegren and putting out a new album in Sept. First song: Reaching For The Top.
