You find scandal where few others do, John.

It’s rare. It’s supposed to be. It’s not done for the cleric’s benefit, but for the benefit of his children. And it’s been done by the Russian Orthodox as well as some ECC’s.

Usually, it results in laicization (or, as the canons read, “Let him be deposed”). But the whole point of economia is for the benefit of the faithful.
I think John’s being scandalized is well founded. Can you qupte any cases where this has been done in the Russian Orthodox church?..or perhaps in an ECC? I highly doubt it.
 
Is it the case that Orthodox and Eastern Catholics that a marriage is neither valid nor sacramental if it is outside the Church (say between Lutherans)? Would the marriage of a Lutheran couple converting be considered become valid through economia? What if only one of the couple converted?

Depends on a lot of factors.
