How lovely. This is the first I have heard of this and I hope it spreads. 👍

The priest blesses the chalk at Mass and we write the markings ourselves.

We did that last year, an Eastern Catholic priest gave us Holy Water and blessed chalk. We had our home blessed by an Eastern Orthodox priest, though.

Our priest comes to bless our homes each year.

I have Latin friends who use blessed chalk on their doors. Most of them attend an FSSP parish, so I don’t know if this is a tradition that has died out and is now being revived. Growing up Byzantine, but going to a Latin-rite school, I had never heard of non-Byzantines doing Epiphany house blessings.

Hmm. What went wrong with that link.

Here it is again:
Epiphany Blessing of Homes

Do see if that works.
I think its a great custom and a simple way to get conversation started about belief and life.

My family has Irish, Spanish background and it was a custom to have your home blessed by a priest before moving in.

Not really a tradition in the UK except in some cultures / among some peoples.
However it is a tradition found in some parts of Christendom so why not adapt to other cultures what is pleasing and spiritually beneficial 🙂

Playfulness of the Liturgy?
