This is unreal! This priest is removed for standing against homosexuality. What is our world coming to?

SAGINAW - The Rev. Eugene Geromel, vicar of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Clayton Township for the past 21 years, officially was ousted from the Episcopal Church by his bishop Thursday.

In a brief appearance before Bishop Edwin Leidel on Thursday at the Diocese of Eastern Michigan headquarters, Geromel, 57, lost his ability to act as a priest largely because of his opposition to the church’s acceptance of homosexuals.

But a statement from 14 conservative bishops across the United States read at his dismissal said they would welcome him in their diocese.

The ouster by Leidel, a liberal on the gay-rights issue, wasn’t unexpected. Geromel and St. Bartholomew’s Church have been at odds with the Episcopal Church for more than five years over Scripture interpretation, culminating with the 2003 ordination of openly gay Bishop V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire.

There is also another story of a priest being removed in Connecticut, but I could not find a link for it.

Peace

I’m glad there are bishops who are willing to have him, but I’m sorry the church is split over the issue. It shows the need for a centralized authority, I think.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought, gee one Episcopal Bishop got it right (thinking he was removing openly Gay Priests) I guess I was wrong. It very well may be things like this that end up creating unity with the Catholic Church.

It would be interesting to know what those bishop’s said in their statement about the action of the bishop who dismissed the priest.
Was he admonished … or was this another one of those “Judge not, lest ye be judged” statements?
