I watched former Planned Parenthood abortion director Abby Johnson on the EWTN program “The World Over” with Raymond Arroyo last night. Her interview begins at number 8:30 on: youtube.com/user/EWTN#p/u/2/Sdvb_HEQ8ds

During the interview, she mentioned that she was asked by members of the Episcopal Church to stop attending services because of her change of heart on abortion. In effect, this protestant Christian church excommunicated her because she rejected their doctrine which supports abortion.

I read online that the Episcopalian Church is one of the largest donors to the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC). I checked out the RCRC website: rcrc.org/perspectives/index.cfm and they also have the perspective for the group Catholics for Choice and Abortion.

Just because members ask? I would guess not necessarily. But also of course in a Catholic parish even excommunicated Catholics are still Catholics.

Many Catholics excommunicate themselves.

Others are formally excommunicated in that they are asked to not present themselves for the Eucharist.

They are not asked to stop attending Mass.

Reason number 5,287 I am thankfully no longer Episcopalian.

I don’t think the Episcopal church excommunicates anyone, nor do they have the authority to do so.

Her particular parish and pastor could tell her not to attend the parish. I heard one person from a Continuing Anglican parish claim that they no longer wanted him there, but he seemed to have some issues and maybe was causing problems.

She can always find another TEC parish to attend. If she is smart she will search out the truth of the Catholic Faith and convert.

TEC is persecuting any priest or parish that is not in line with their liberal agenda. They take parishes to court for their buildings and I know that ten priests were thrown out of one diocese who were standing with the Gospel. Two of them have started parishes and will be entering the Ordinariate.

It is very sad to see what has taken place in TEC over the last 30 years. Although in some ways it has been a blessing with so many converting whether through the Ordinariate or as individuals.

Yet the road has travelled both ways with some converting to TEC over the yrs to hear the Gospel and the Word there as well. Where 2 or 3 are gathered, there He is in their midsts. Peace.

We do not even shoo away non-Catholics.

Given the Anglican/Episcopalian belief that all Christians should be welcome for Communion, I’d say it goes beyond excommunication. They’ve essentially declared her anathema.

From what I saw in the video, she doesn’t explain what happened. However, two years ago she gave an interview to a newspaper and said that she no longer felt welcome there by some church members, who would approach her after services.

Whereas clergy and parishioners welcomed her as a Planned Parenthood employee, now they are buttonholing her after Sunday services.

“Now that I have taken this stand, some of the people there are not accepting of that,” she told The Washington Times. “People have told me they disagree with my choice. One of the things I’ve been told is that as Episcopalians, we embrace our differences and disagreements. While I agree with that, I am not sure I can go to a place where I don’t feel I am welcome.”

The rector at St. Francis refused to comment on the charge of nonacceptance.

I don’t know what St. Francis Episcopal Church is like, but I’m not sure that there is any reason to believe that The Episcopal Church asked her to leave their denomination. And I am not sure that the pastor of St. Francis asked her to leave, either. But she did say, two years ago, that she was considering leaving.

personal experience, I was shooed away when I wanted to invite our ECUSA parish to the walk for life…I just wanted to put it in the newsletter…no they wouldn’t… Then when I asked and talked to my priest about life issues and the ECUSA stance…I got nothing. I am not an overbearing person, nor did I bug anyone…these two attempts to talk about Life issues and I was shooed…

I converted to the Catholic Church.

I’ve known shooing in the other direction too. But if you’ve found a home in the Catholic Church, that is great!
