Also, this isn’t related to same sex marriages but this got me thinking about something a friend told me a few weeks ago…she said that her grandmother was having her dog baptized . When I asked her what denomination she said “Episcopal of course.” Have any of you heard of this??? Perhaps these are just the antics of a particularly extreme pastor? I searched on the internet but didn’t find anything about dog “baptisms” but I did find an instance of a female “priest” in Canada giving communion to a dog. But at least that was just bread!

Cockerspaniels, Scotty Dogs, and Chihuahuas are eligible for chrismation at a later date, confirmation into the dog brotherhood of inquierers LOL “it is meet, right, and a joyful thing always and everywhere to bring a canine into our folds, brethren!”😛

Same sex marriage is now one of the most polarizing matters in our society today. It is even polarizing Christianity, such a shame. TEC has made their position clear. It is things like that that tell me as much as I love the Episcopal Church I have been attending, I may have to leave. I hate this because all this liberal left wing bull is nowhere to be found in my parish, but it is right before our eyes on an institutional level.

As much as I have things that I disagree with the RCC about, none of them hold a candle to this. I admire Rome for sticking to their convictions, even if a bunch of cultural catholics do not agree with Church teachings and are in favor of same sex marriage. I can rest in the fact that Rome would never allow such.

Unfortunately, some segments of Christianity are going to go to the left in our modern culture war, others to the right, and will remain grounded in truth and reality. TEC has made their choice. Those bothered by it will either leave or ignore it, like cultural Catholics who remain Catholic despite their disagreements with the Church.

You’re right. There are TEC parishes like yours, especially in Texas and in other Southern areas like Bishop Mark Lawrence’s turf, where things are pretty conservative. Although “conservative” is pretty relative with Anglicanism :p.

However, like you said, it’s a matter of time before things implode more. I look at these “conservative” TEC parishes/dioceses like the Lord of the Rings actually. The hobbits in the shire wanted no part of helping fight Sauron or the great war to come and they’re oblivious to what’s happening in the east. They just sit on their laurels in a happy, warm, daily grind that has always worked for them…but the Eye is watching and building up an army.

There are hold-outs in TEC like +Lawrence, holding up in Helm’s Deep. But the orcs, goblins, and uruks are on their way…stomp, stomp, stomp…

+Lawrence’s diocese (SC) just completed its Convention. And based on the steps taken there, and other conditions prevalent, I immediately thought of the situation in terms of the gracious Katherine, at the head of a phalanx of Pkw Vs and VIs, about to cross the border. But the image of the Eye is apposite, too.

I haven’t followed it as you have. What were the results of the convention that you’re speaking of anyway? Something big?

Nothing surprising. But the Convention basically resolved that the disciplinary changes to the Constitution (Title IV changes, affecting both diocesan and the Presiding Bishops authority), was absolutely null and utterly void, in the Diocese of SC. These are the changes aimed at institutionalizing the aggrandizement of the previously non-existent hierarchical power of the PB office, contrary to historical usage and defined polity. Also pointed out that the Dennis Canon could take a hike, in the Diocese, thanks to the SC Supreme Court.

Several months ago, +Lawrence discovered that there was a lawyer in SC, identifying himself as “the” lawyer for the Episcopal Church in SC. This was discovered by virtue of said lawyer contacting the diocesan lawyer and requesting certain documents, pursuant to nefarious plans. Given that, as the Diocese correctly noted, Lawrence is supreme episcopal authority in the diocese, not answerable to an administrative mail drop at 815, and that such proceedings would not fly here, this gentleman was given a flea, inserted into his ear, and (I think) the Convention was postponed to permit some deep thinking. Links are available.

I suspect the gracious Katherine is coming for…something.

It’s hard to have a GKC post without the phrase “absolutely null and utterly void” somewhere…

You lost me here a bit. I’m not up on the Dennis Canon too much.

That’s the one that declares to the parishes and dioceses “All your base are belong to us”.

Or, IOW, that while a parish may hold a legal deed, declaring all parish property to be owned by (say) a parish derived organization or trust, that’s just for giggles, and all that property really belongs (in trust, of course) to 815 2nd Avenue, NY.

A poll (can’t remember by who, it was on NPR radio) found that the majority of white catholics supported same sex marraiges, which I found surprising. It did say that a majority of those who were polled also said they did not attend church regularly.
What poll, I never had the opportunity to take such a poll, much less hear about it. Maybe it was specific to a certain region or group of people; oh I don’t know…… San Francisco perhaps.

I would like to see it too, but keep in mind cultural/cafeteria Catholics, which are a bigger problems then some want to acknowledge.

The issue of same sex marriage is also political. Depending on how it is asked, you are going to get two different answers from me personally. If you ask should the church sanction gay marriage, I will say no, due to the sacramental nature of marriage.

From a political standpoint, I believe that homosexuals have a legal, constitutional right to secular marriage-ie a legal marriage certificate. I don’t bring this point up to debate the matter, nor will I in this thread. Its simply to point out that how a question is asked will have an impact on the answer.

Near my parish chuch in Milton, where I sing at Sunday Mass, is an Episcopal Church. In fact, it’s diagonally across the street from us. Some Sunday mornings, when I cross over to Church, I see a banner hanging outside the door saying “We Rejoice In Equal Marriage,” written over a Rainbow. This means that they allow “same-sex” marriages, or there is such a ceremony in progress at that moment. I can’t believe that the Episcopal Church would turn its back on the teaching of traditional marriage and buy into the lie about same-sex marriage. If my parish hung a banner like that, I would boycott that church and switch to another parish. Let’s face it; same-sex marriage is one of our 5 non-negotiable issues. We should rejoice in traditional marriage-between one man and one woman.
“What God has joined together, let no one tear asunder.”
Jesus Christ

Remember, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
Why should this surprise you, this is the same church in my town that did a calendar of nude 50+ ladies for breast cancer. It was shot in pews in the middle of the church!!! While I support fighting breast cancer, the ends do not justify the means. These people have abandoned God and His Word.

However there are many issues “cancer” that have affected many religions and churches. Remember the warning in 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for (someone) to devour”.

Because we are imperfect and are sinners, we are weak and need to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us. However this may be impossible if a church turns its back on God.

Egads! I fear it will get worse as we see the holiest and purest jump ship leaving the patients to run the isylum. (I know, mixed metaphor)

I hear you JR, but in my opinion the cultural/cafeteria Catholics, are really not as big a problem as one might suspect. Yes they can affect policy in America or other countries; however they do not affect Church teaching and doctrine which remains true to the Holy Spirit.

As far as polls go every one of them is skewed and asked in regions that best supports its agenda to get the results it intends to get. This supposed poll on gay marriage and Catholics would not have been asked in an area that is heavily conservative and true to Catholic doctrine, otherwise the results would have been quite different.

I thought they had hit bottom a long time ago with Gene R. If they hit another bottom, it’s going to be the basement of the basement! 😛
GKC and Guerney,

I’m afraid that they haven’t hit bottom yet. I expect things to get even worse.

To MarkBrown, I’m in Milton, Massachusetts. Not in Milton, Florida. And I don’t know the priest you’re talking about, but thank you for your reply.

You got that right.

I’m figuring that they will espouse polygamy any day now.

Nah, the extreme Mormon cults in Idaho and Texas and parts of Utah have the monopoly on that one 😛

My vote for the next TEC heresy is sanctioning beastiality or prostitution cults or perhaps the NAMBLA credo will be in their next constitution :(
