I do understand the frustration on the part of conservatives. They don’t want the changes. I get it. All religions have these confrontations. The Catholics, and the Orthodox have the same types of traditionalists. I feel bad for all of them because in the end, whatever religion they are in, the traditionalists almost always lose because tradition changes. Nothing, no church or religion, is static and stays the same. And eventually, the traditionalists will fade into an ever small minority.

But I doubt that the “heterodox” are in the minority. If we were, it would be us complaining about the direction of the church.
That meant the minority in a given parish, which votes to leave TEC. In such a case, the losing heterodox minority, given Anglicanism’s congregationalist side, and given the historic polity of parish/diocesan ownership, would be the ones required to leave in such a doctrinal dispute.

Again, neither Anglicanism nor Christianity is infinitely elastic. Change it sufficiently, you kill it. Even if you retain the name on the door.

That’s kinda what a Roman Catholic would say about traditional Anglicanism. What was the phrase? Ah yes, absolutley null and utterly void. Its all in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Monsignor Raphael Merry del Val’s Words, over Leo XIII’s signature, *Apostolicae Curae
*, dated 13 Sep 1896, issued in Rome 18 Sep.

One of my hobby areas (hi, gurney).

Roman Catholics frequently say things about traditional Anglicans here.

History is complicated! Now I’m picturing George Lucas talking to me every time. That could be cleared up by a simple pic! 😛 I know, I know, “no pic!” what a grump! Make it up to me and get me a George Romero autograph next time you go to a convention! 😃

I’ll try.

You got a Tom Savini, right?

And I worked a “motley crew” in, above.

GKC

I don’t have a Savini, sadly. The guy’s great. Loved his work in the Dead movies and his cameos in the Creepshow movies. Did you like Creepshow? I adore that flick. I liked EC comics and the homage to them, IMO, that Stephen King paid was pretty cool. I saw Creepshow when I was a kid and it scared the crud out of me! LOL. Romero and Stephen King is a cool combo! Have Romero and Savini make it out “to Scott!” :p:thumbsup:

No promises. Savini is around more than Romero, but it’s a tossup.

Nah, I’m not a FANGORIA fan.

When I was a kid, I never bought Starlog but boy did I NEVER miss a Fangoria issue! My buddy and I used to run down to the good old mom and pop magazine shop here in town that has now been purchased by Mexicans with mariachi music blaring in there. The old store was “Midtown News” and they carried every magazine you could think of. Fangoria was always there right on time. My buddy and I would read them front to back.

In fact, I got published in a couple of issues in the letter section! 🙂

The one autograph I truly, truly am sad that I never got was Darren McGavin. “Kolchak the Night Stalker” still is one of my favorites of all time. Kate and I are going through a marathon of them right now. Great Halloween season marathon! 👍

I about puked the other day when I saw that they’re remaking “Fright Night.” SIGH…and they’re trying to Twilight it up from the looks of things (triple sigh!)

Do you ever notice they never have Anglican priests in any of the horror flicks? Always Catholics. Catholics just make for better slayers! 😃 Too much Calvinism in Anglicanism to make them effective vampire-killers and exorcists! 😛

There is, somewhere on line, a funny little essay on why, when serious badness is about to hit, the script always has a RC priest as the go-to guy. Not that it’s always effective, but it’s the default. One exception I can recall had an Anglican priest try an exorcism (doubtless a good Anglicanus-Catholicus). Didn’t work. Next, a RC priest. Didn’t work either. Nothing did. Can’t recall the movie.

Got lots of STARLOG and a few FANGORIA.

Back around 1990 I ordered a TON of back-issues of Fangoria. Years later they had a horrible warehouse fire. Did you hear about that? Anyway, all the remaining old school issues got torched and the only ones in existence are in private collections here and there.

I used to like in the 80’s how they’d constantly have stuff in there about the old films like Vincent Price’s stuff. I’m a huge Vinny fan. Like I said, I wrote him a letter at age 16 or so. He repsponded and mailed me an autographed photo. I still am thrilled over it. He’s a legend. Dr. Phibes and Theatre of Blood, wow, what’s NOT to love about those films! Masque of the Red Death, love that stuff! I just eat it up!

I used to like Hammer films but got burned out on them. They’re so cheesy.

Back in the day, Hammer Films were not cheesy. I got a few signed pics. Like Caroline Munro.

Didn’t know of the fire.

Ain’t nothing in the world cheesy about Caroline Munro! Just watch her in that one Sinbad flick. Ouch. Can’t take it.

But you have to admit that many Hammer flicks were just cornball and cheesy. Come on–Satanic Rites of Dracula!? That was corney as heck. Then Dracula AD 1972!? yuck. The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires was outrageously lame. Vampire Lovers!? LOL Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter? AWFUL.

A few great things came out of Hammer studios: Phantom of the Opera with Herbert Lom. LOVE IT! Still a fave. Ingrid Pitt. WOW. Another Hammer blessing! Madeline Smith another definite plus!

The Mummy was ok, Christopher Lee was cool. Hated half the stuff Cushing did. So cornball. Frankenstein Must be Destroyed wasn’t half bad. The early Dracula stuff was tolerable.

But that knife cuts both ways. There are liberals who are torn between the attachment to those sentimental things and a sense of conscience about what the conservatives have done.
I’m sure that’s true. It’s a sorry business. There are no winners here, are there?
I’m sorry but the is hurt on both sides and that is life. It shouldn’t be about the darn stained glass windows anyways. We’ll let the law settle the property disputes and move on. Your side will get some of the windows and my side will get some of the windows.
The one thing both ‘sides’ should remember: I Corinthians 6.

You don’t say, GKC, you don’t say:p It’s not fair, is it? I mean, we don’t say things about them (any more)😃

It is possible that you misunderstood the statement, cryptically worded, as it was. It was to suggest we often have discussions, some folk saying one thing, some another. On the subject of of Apostolicae Curae, for example. A complicated tale, of intertwined history, theology, politics and personalities, in that sad story. Like the story of the disintegration of Anglicanism. Sad.

I am not aware of any policy that would prohibit the selling back of churches but it doesn’t surprise me. Here on the progressive side there is a lot of bitternes about the Africans stepping in a fomenting this schism. Without their interference, something may well have been worked out. Just like the women’s ordination controversy, there could have been parishes and dioceses that allowed gays and some that didn’t. That is the way Anglicans have worked out issues before. But the border crossings made the schism too easy so there is some bitterness in the Episcopal Church over that.

I am sorry that your friend was told to leave. How was she “too conservative”? Did she have a Bush/Cheney sticker on her car? Sounds unbelievable to me. Any way, she welcome a my parish. That is if she didn’t mind sitting next to a gay couple.
Conservative Episcopalians are often encouraged to leave - I personally was told that I’d be better off in a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church - and that was by a bishop.

I find it odd that this happens, and yet people are insulted that Rome has invited the Anglicans in, and even think it is some attempt to destroy Anglicanism. Maybe they aren’t the same people.

Here several bishops tried directly to destroy and drive out traditional priests, for example by making their working conditions difficult, and parishes by making sure they cannot get a traditional priest. No parishes have left, but the membership just fades away. They are trying to close parishes and are in serious financial trouble.

My bishop and rector believe it’s an attempt to suck out the good folks in Anglicanism and bleed it dry. Bishop Schofield has had Vatican reps come and try to court him away to Rome. He says it’s power plays. Catholics claim otherwise saying that mostly Anglo-Catholics within the Church of England asked for it. He said, he said kind of thing.

LET’S GO SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS—GAME ONE DOWN BABY! Sorry, had to shout out to my boys. We beat Philadelphia in heroic fashion. I’ll calm down now…
