As many of you might have heard, Katharine Schori will be presiding over a new Bishop consecration within the Episcopal church in September.

This in and of itself isnt news.

What makes this news is that it will occur in a CATHOLIC CHURCH. Not because there isn’t a local Episcopal church. There is. But it appears that it is for space and accomodation of guest reasons.

We here in Alaska are shocked that this would occur, especially when the Episcopal church has a building here.

Please think about signing out letter to the Archbishop, requesting that this even NOT take place in a Catholic Church and in a Catholic Sanctuary on a Catholic Altar.

Been here done this, no offense meant but maybe pry a little deeper because this topic has been done

Don’t want offend…just want to be truthful…No consecration is taking place because:
  1. heretics do not have valid orders and can not consecrate anything
  2. even if they did have valid orders, a woman is not proper matter and therefore no sacrament can be confected, therefore the person is question is not a “priestess” and will never, ever be a Bishop

it doesnt matter. the issue here is that this heresy is taking place in a Sacred Place. does this bishop even know the difference?

Right. So we should basically point at them and laugh at their little “pretend” concsencration.

Don’t want to offend…just seeking the truth here…what does it mean “proper matter for a sacrament”?

Proper matter means using the proper physical sign to make the Sacrament a sacrament

Examples are:
  1. Baptism - valid mater is water. You cannot baptize using orange juice
  2. Confirmation - valid matter is Sacred Chrism. A priest or bishop cannot confirm with Vaseline.
  3. Eucharist - wheat bread and pure wine. A priest cannot consecrate a slice of cucumber and beer
  4. Anointing of the Sick - valid matter is Oil of the Infirm. Same as Confirmation
  5. Matrimony - valid matter is one unmarried man and one unmarried woman. If one or both is married, or both are men or both are women, invalid matter. Further more you cannot marry your cat no matter how much you love your cat.
  6. Holy Orders - valid matter is a male. A female cannot receive Holy Orders
So because the matter is invalid, no matter how much the priest tries or whatever it does, no Sacrament is made.

By the way, what the matter for Confession? The penitent? Confessor? The absolution constitute the form right, not the matter?
