Probably no one at a lower pay grade can.And may God save the Continuing Anglicans!
Quite likely, yes.I forget what TAC web-site I saw it on, but there was a great Q & A section done by an Anglican Bishop on the Apostolic Constitution, Anglicanorum cœtibus. He answered one question as we are not being “absorbed” in to the Roman Catholic Church but being “reunited” in to full communion with the Church, and bringing 450 years of much needed gifts in to the Church. I thought that was beautiful, especially knowing the beauty of the Anglican Liturgy could positively influence the current Roman liturgy. Good stuff, work of the Holy Spirit.
(mechanical voice) NO. YOU MUST ADD FELT BANNERS TO YOUR SANCTUARIES AND SING ‘ON EAGLES’ WINGS’ EVERY SUNDAY. YOUR TABERNACLES MUST BE MOVED TO STORAGE ‘B’. PLEASE REPLACE TRADITIONAL STAINED GLASS WITH UNINTELLIGIBLE MODERN ART GLASS. PLEASE REPLACE ALL METAL CHALICES AND CIBORIA WITH GLASS OR CRYSTAL. YOUR ‘SERMONS’ WILL BE REPLACED WITH SISTER MARY PANTSUIT’S WEEKLY ‘REFLECTIONS’ INCORPORATING THE MOST RECENT TRENDS IN ECUMENICAL SYNCRETISM. YOU WILL HOLD HANDS DURING THE ‘OUR FATHER’ AND MIMIC THE CELEBRANT’S ORANS POSTURE WHENEVER POSSIBLE. YOU WILL NEVER AGAIN RECEIVE COMMUNION ON THE TONGUE, VIA INTINCTION, KNEELING, OR FROM AN ORDAINED MINISTER.I thought that was beautiful, especially knowing the beauty of the Anglican Liturgy could positively influence the current Roman liturgy. WELCOME TO CATHOLICISM USA.
grrrkkktthhtt!! ugh… sorry about that… damn Vatican mind control implant must have been picking up the Cardinal Mahony frequency.
Seriously though, we could use some Anglican liturgical sensibilities. Bring it on in, guys.
I’m glad I shorted out the signal before that part. How about liturgical interpretive dance?

No comment haha. Well…ok, a comment. 95% of the liturgical dance that I’ve seen is in Youtube videos of events claiming to be Masses. As for the other 5%…we must all choose our parishes with care. That is all.![]()
Thank goodness for councils!
It wasn’t until the Council of Rome in 826 and the Council of Avignon in 1209 that dancing began to be officially frowned upon by the Church. Disciplines and customs can and do change, however. Better an influx of pagan-tinged practices than bourgeois ones, IMO.
You might google some stuff from Mahony’s place. Liturgical dancing with bowls of flowers, IIRC.I suppose I should count myself lucky to have no idea what you guys are talking about? Do some ballet chicks dance their way through the liturgy or what?? I’m picturing a guy dressed like Freddie Mercury up there and Liza Minelli going through the Book of Common Prayer singing in opera style “it is meet and right so to DOOOOOO!”

Actually…tradition does hold that during the consecration of the Mass from the epiclesis onward, not only are the Communion of Saints in Heaven around the altar, but that the angels DANCE in joy and praise around the altar as the bread and wine becomes the Body, Blood Soul and Divinity…There’s a pronounced animus toward liturgical dance here. One is entitled to this, of course, but it’s not as if dancing and religion are mutually exclusive. Certainly not for the Sufis, but not really for Christians either.
I’ve posted this elsewhere, but suffice it to say that dancing has long been a popular form of expression for Europeans, and even in Church circles. The seasonal dances of the ancient Celts and Britons were still performed on various Christian feast days long after the conversion of the Isles—albeit they were conducted outside the actual parish church. The maypole dance tradition lasted for centuries as a spirited celebration honoring the month of Our Lady. In Spain, the Catholic monks at Montserrat even annotated their songs to the Virgin with instructions for how to perform accompanying dances. Rather than taking a puritanical view of dance, they simply gave the pilgrims appropriate music to dance to. (If you’re familiar with the music of the Llibre Vermell, you’ll know that it’s pretty earthy, percussive, and ecstatic. And this was their idea of “orderly and pious.”) There’s also the Easter custom at the cathedral of Auxerre during the Middle Ages, where the canons danced hand-in-hand with choirboys in the cloister yard! Nowadays people would probably call the police if they witnessed such a spectacle, but for the medievals this was simply their way of expressing gladness on the most joyful day of the liturgical year.
