Hi.

When we say that someone who knows the Church is nescessary for salation and refuses to enter her can’t be saved, what is meant?

Does it mean that someone with technical knowledge of Catholic beliefs but who does not accept / believe them (like a well-informed protestant who knows the church teaches her own nescessity) cannot be saved?

I think it means that if a person is convinced that they ought to be members of the Church but refuse to do so are incapable of being saved…Kinda like yes i believe Christ si the Son of God but i don’t need Him for salvation

It means someone who knows the Church is necessary, not someone who knows that other people think the Church is necessary.

However the person could be held responsible if he knows “in his heart of hearts” that the Church is what she says she is, and doesn’t do anything about joining the Church because it would be too much trouble (with family members, and/or society and/or the Church’s teachings on morality and/or whatever). If a person says to himself that he doesn’t believe it, when an examination of his soul in prayer would reveal that he does in fact believe it, it doesn’t count as an excuse.
